He sounded all French and technical, aside from that he did set us back a decade or so. If him and Kenny were City traders they would be facing prosecution for that money they blew on CHAD.

Downing's not going to be here come next season. That is abdundantly clear. All that concerns me is the price we're going to get for him.

TBH mate I would give him away right now just to get him out of the place. He is stinking it out.

I agree, but I think now is the time to act a bit like Man Utd in terms of selling dross for maximum fees. They do it time and again and we need to do it too.

agree he has to go, and we get what we can for him, but do not stop him going because the fee isnt enough.
just be sure he isnt available for team selection. job done.

he is dog poo on the teams shoe, and he is walking it all over a new carpet

He added together various coefficients, and on that basis spent 70 odd million on some of the most woeful players to ever wear the shirt.

It makes the "George Weah's cousin" story look like a sensible scouting philosophy.

                Corrected for you.

Liverpool winger Stewart Downing says he has been told he can leave the club by manager Brendan Rodgers.
                  BBC
The 28-year-old has played in five of Liverpool's last six games but has often had to play at left-back rather than in midfield.

"The manager has said I can leave if I want to," Downing told the Reds' match day programme before playing in their 3-1 loss to former club Aston Villa.
"But then I've come back into the team, it's a strange situation."

Downing joined the Anfield club from Aston Villa in summer 2011 for a fee believed to be in the region of £20m when Kenny Dalglish was the manager.
"I've played for a long time and there are spells when you can be in and out of the side," added Downing.

"At the minute I'm trying to play as many games as possible.
"If that doesn't happen I'm at an age where I can't be sat around. I need to play and the manager understands that."

He recently admitted he was "disappointed" by criticism from Rodgers before the Reds boss praised the player after his winner in a Europa League group game against Anzhi Makhachkala.

"That's how the situation is and we'll have to see what happens in January or the summer."

Well the Giraffe lover is actually playing ok at the moment. To be fair, his passing has actually been superb - even with his right foot.

Its very strange the way we have told Downing he can go yet persist in playing him ahead of people like Robinson

Crazy especially playing him out of position.

Looking at logically I can think of only four even vaguely plausible reasons:
                          1. Rodgers believes Downing being match fit means he's more likely to go/will get a higher fee in the transfer window. NY probability rating: 2/10
                          2. Rodgers sees Robinson and Downing every day in training and thinks Downing is likely to be more effective, despite being played out of position and despite the fact Robinson looked ok when he came in quite a while ago. NY probability rating: 5/10
                          3. Rodgers is a bad judge of players. NY probability rating: 3/10
                          4. Rodgers is completely mad. NY probability rating: 11/10 Not really, more like 0/10
                          .

The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

So you are really as mystified as the rest of us

Have a lie down you'll feel better for it

No, I don't think I am. I think the most likely answer is that Rodgers feels Downing is more effective than Robinson would be.

I'd be a hell of a lot more mystified and concerned if it turns out he thought he wasn't as good as Robinson but chose to pick him anyway.

I must admit though I'm mystified why people are mystified. I suggest the common tendency to overrate our young players might be in operation.

I am even more worried based on that then

He thinks Downing is a better fullback than Robinson - wow
