I was so pumped at the start and when Enrique missed that early chance I was leaping around like a loon. Then when Downing ****ing WELLIED the rebound into the crowd I just sat down quietly and then laughed.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

some good points made about the interaction between enrique and downing. surely if this is the case then the manager must be telling them some home truths and sorting out the game plan and improving their interplay and tactical awareness. some better communication and understanding is a must.

downing must ONLY ever play on the left wing. on the right he looks like a fish out of water. if on the right, defenders know he must check his run and cut back onto his left peg, thus slowing down the play. at least on the left wing, even though defenders know he will go with his left foot, it means he isnt checking back and slowing the pace and distribution of the ball.

He knocked Barry off the ball last night when we were coming under pressure.. First bit of desire I've seen from him so I haven't got a bad word to say about his performance last night.. I remember thinking, here we go he's going to be knocked off it, and to be fair he wasn't exactly favourite to come away with the ball. Fair play.

Enrique tends to hold the ball far too long, then gives it to Downing when there's nowhere else to go. He needs to be sliding it in front of Downing earlier, he's quicker than he looks. Instead Enrique has a tendency to over run a lot of the time leaving Downing dropping off to try and cover when he inevitably over runs it.
Enrique is a fantastic left back, but he really needs to be more decisive in the final 3rd, seems to dribble, dribble, dribble, run out of space/ideas, lay it back to Downing who's in a terrible position to attack.

I think Enrique poses real problems for any winger playing in front of him. He doesnt move the ball quickly enough. Tends to hold it, look up, wait, use his body to shield it and then knock it forward. By which time the player ahead is marked or offside.

He also doesnt overlap properly enough. He should be bombing on to give the fullback something to think about - does he go with the run or go to the ball? He did it once or twice last night and it worked well both times. But too often he goes past the winger but only by about five yards and then stands there. Meaning that the full back can cover both to some extent, and that our winger doesnt really have the option to go on the outside.

He looks to me like a player who would be fantastic as a wing back or with a player ahead who drifts inside. But Im not convinced by him in our system at the moment.

Shocking considering Gareth barry's arse weighs more than Stuart Downing himself, a great achievement indeed

He wasn't great but better than what we had seen of him this season.

Definitely an improvement but needs to do so much more.

42 chances in 21 league games. Is that good?

The video fake that fooled Liverpool bosses before £20 million Downing move

ASTON Villa banked £20 million for star winger Stewart Downing – after Liverpool FC bosses were fooled by this FAKE footage of the England man’s skills.

The Anfield club’s top brass vowed to sign Downing after being dazzled by YouTube clips of him kicking balls into five wheelie bins from long range.

“There was some footage of Stewart where he was, from 30 yards away, kicking a football into five different trash cans and it was brilliant,” said chairman Werner.

“John and I said: ‘Oh my God, this player is brilliant, we’ve got to figure out a way to make a deal with him’.”
