didnt saints spend 6m on rodriguez and 12m on ramirez or did they buy rodriguez last season ? cant be sure but they're not afraid to spend money.
    I'm not disputing that.

I am disputing that they would spend that amount on Downing when there is better value elsewhere. It would be suicidal.
    Oh I don't know.

all jokes aside i'd love to know how many people he has 'beaten' in his time here. less than 10?

not if he helps them get into the EPL its not.

dont forget that up until recently he was a regular member of england squads so 10m isnt unreasonable.

ffs we paid 20m for him.

but at the time i thought he was a good player but not at 20m. his worth is probably three quarters of that but comolli just seemed to hand out as much money as he could.

I disagree to extent. He still should be able to fetch 6-9m.

Likes of Stokes, WH, Villa etc would be very good place for him and they would be able to afford him (wages could be an issue but he doesn't strike me as a type that wants to earn money regardless if he plays or not) and imo he would be a decent player for them.

He is just not cut for the club of our size.

OK, you're missing the point again.

IF (massive if) he does it in the championship, there's certainly no gurantee that he'd do it in the PL. Has he ever, consistently? Certainly not for a few years. And how old is he now?

What we paid for him is completely irrelevant to what his worth is now. Is he a current England international? Is he likely to ever be again?

Having him on loan, and paying £10m are completely different things, and serve different purposes.

It's ****, but so is life - we get over it and move on.
                Oh I don't know.

look what stoke have done with etherington.

he looks good for them and downing is a better player than he is.

                    Fine to disagree.

I dont think he's cut out for football.

                      a means to an end.

we give him to boro on loan. hopefully he gets them promoted and they pay us a half decent fee and take him off our hands.

                      i hope thats clear enough.

There's only one way to find out, and that is to wait and see what happens.

i agree mate but it shows clearly that although comolli did some good things he also completely ****ed up our booster one off investment into the squad. no one believed that carroll, downing or henderson were worth that much money when they were signed and so its been proved.

so now we're left with joe cole, andy carroll, stewart downing on big money with very little to offer.

its depressing when you think about those decisions even though cole wasnt part of that process.

There must be a club who would be willing to spend £7m on him, surely.

Villa, West Ham, Stoke or even Boro if they come up again. He's pony but I'd be shocked if there wasn't one team in the PL willing to fork out £7m on him.

Only a £13m loss then. Plus wages for the last two seasons.

rodgers is giving out some confusing messages at the moment.

his initial idea was to play with two inverted wingers hence downing on the right and later suso on the right and sterling left.

then against wigan he plays a left footed left back enrique on the left wing. how come we've changed tactics all of a sudden ? If he had started the season with a leftie ie downing out wide left, then could downing be performing at a better level now.

its easy for everyone to say no but really is it that simple ?
