im not sure its even worth selling downing because were going to be left short of cover.

the front three will be coutinho, suarez (even if he stays we dont know what his attitude will be) and sturridge but one of those isnt available for the first 6 matches and the other isnt match fit yet.

that leaves us only aspas, borini who i dont think can make a decent contribution as a starter and sterling as the back up choices. i dont think thats enough quality.

we cant afford another bad start imo.

I actually think it's a decent deal for them. He'll do ok there.

Definitely his level and he could become a key player for them, something he will clearly never ever be for us.

Just hope and pray it does not become a loan deal!

Sam's clearly come up with a plan for Downing to deliver the crosses for Carroll to feed off.

          Oh, hang on...

                Transfer confirmed by WHU chairman?
I read that somewhere, but not the actual confirmation...
I think this guarantees us at least on more attacking player

If Downing takes a pay cut, I'm 100% ok with him staying. He's put plenty of decent shifts in lately and has been quite handy out wide. Don't see a reason to offload him if we can get him to take lower wages tbh

We will get better as a team even if we sell Downing and not get anyone else in, because it will open up chances for Sterling and Ibe to play more games and develop. Both of them are already better than Downing. I've been extremely impressed with Ibe this summer.

I couldn't agree more, what a truly horrible transfer which has to rank as one of the worst value for money transfer deals in the history of this club, £20M for a player that at his very best is nothing more than relentlessly average and even by his low standards he has managed to disappoint. This is a supposed attacking player that contributed 0 goals and 0 assists in his first season and managed 3 goals and 5 assists this year?

Before anyone on here drags some stats out of their arse to try and justify Downings existence ask yourselves this, how many times have you been glad to see Downings name on the team sheet? How many times have you been desperate to see Downing brought onto the field to change a game? How many times have you been screaming for someone to pass the ball to Downing to make something happen? In my case I can honeslty say zero to every one of those.

This is a ****house how refuses to take any responsibility on the pitch, the master of the backwards and sideways pass a winger that seems to possess a rare medical condition in that he has a phobia of fullbacks. A horrible cowardly shell of a footballer that we are burning £80,000 a week to have the horror of watching.

Allegedly that summer we could have had Juan Mata instead we decided this bag of **** was the better option, £6M to West Ham, I'd gladly pay West Ham £6M to take the ****house off our hands.

**** off Downing, you won't be missed unless we are really desperate to **** up an attacking move or create **** all or display the heart, commitment and passion of an inmate on death row then in which case you'd be invaluable.

I'm gonna upset a load of people that I made happy. Downing deal to West Ham is OFF!! He was ready to go & Rodgers asked him to stay & fight

What's with this pay cut business? Is it even a realistic option? Who in their right mind would take a pay cut in their job?
                          Oh I don't know.

I'd move to a job I liked more that paid less if I was financially secure enough to do so.

Not quite sure I get all the Downing hatred! Yes he was signed for a massively inflated fee (not his fault), and he wasn't great at the start of his spell with us, but the 2nd half of last season he was much improved and he was dangerous against Celtic yesterday! He keeps the ball well, is a hard worker, and has final third quality.

Selling him for £4 -£5m would be rediculous in my opinion.

His assist for the goal was top quality
