Seems he's as good as gone.

As much as we all hated him , I do think he was consistently ok last season. He also could be trusted to track back and do some defending.

We'll definitely need someone decent in to replace him, especially as Coutinho is now confirmed as playing in the no10 role

He's not the worst footballer in the world - he's got ability and a decent left foot - but I am delighted he's gone. Absolutely delighted. A player who actively hid, didn't want the ball, and didn't have the guts to do anything other than take the easy option. Eighty grand a week for that. Cheerio.

I won't post what I tweeted regards him moving. I suspect it will cause a bit of a stir.

Stewart Downing: West Ham close in on deal to sign Liverpool winger

West Ham United have agreed a fee with Liverpool over a deal to sign winger Stewart Downing.
The 29-year-old England international is expected to undergo a medical and agree personal terms before completing any move to Upton Park.

            Stewart Downing factfile
            Age: 29
            Position: Bottler
            Liverpool appearances: 91
            Liverpool goals: Seven so hush...
Former teams: Middlesbrough, Sunderland (loan) and Aston Villa

Downing was signed by Liverpool in a £20m deal from Aston Villa in July 2011 under former manager Kenny Dalglish.
He was a first-team regular last season but has failed to make a major impact while at the Merseyside club.
Downing scored five times in 45 appearances for the Reds in the 2012-13 campaign and, overall, registered seven goals in 91 outings for the club.

He revealed last December that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers had told him he could leave the club, despite the former Middlesbrough player being part of the first-team set up.
However, Rodgers now appears prepared to let Downing go and follow striker Andy Carroll in moving from Anfield to Upton Park.

Lacked the mental strength to succeed at a club like ours. Might have had the talent but not the application at the level we needed. £5m is a decent price and I expect him to do well at WH.

Will be brilliant when this can be moved to the Non-Liverpool thread. Was never good enough for us and should never have signed him.

Downing was on the way to the medical and 'almost' got there but turned around at the last minute and got lost in traffic and was last seen heading up a blind alley.
