So, let's just say it was Gary Neville who turned his back on England, and the fans chanted about him and brought Phil into the song, that would be fine cos they're white? Skin colour doesn't come into this one, the song was about Rio, simple as, and his skin colour matters not one jot, his apathy towards England is what brought on the chants.

Why bring Anton into it all though? What has he got to do with Rio turning his back on England?Originally posted by Scratch View PostSo, let's just say it was Gary Neville who turned his back on England, and the fans chanted about him and brought Phil into the song, that would be fine cos they're white? Exactly. He doesn't even play for England.
So we're supposed to believe that "it's not racist, he just fits the chant and he's his brother, it's just a fact".
I fail to see how that argument is any different to the John Terry referring to Anton Ferdinand's skin colour when calling him a c*nt. Presumably the reference to his ethnicity is just a statement of fact too..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

And the other thing here is that the FA seem to have set a precedent that racist language is racist language, whether or not the person using it intended as such.
So it will be interesting to see whether they apply this to England fans too..

Are you really suggesting there is no racist component to singing a song in support of a person who called someone else a "black ****" and in the process singing about setting two black men on fire?
I find that very, very difficult to believe..

I was merely addressing the preceding point, which was that racist language was punnishable whether intended or not. This case is different in that such racist language wasn't evident but the racist intention of the language used is inferred. So no, I am not suggesting 'that' at all.Originally posted by Neil Young View PostAre you really suggesting there is no racist component to singing a song in support of a person who called someone else a "black ****" and in the process singing about setting two black men on fire?

A song in support of Terry? Was Terry even mentioned then?Originally posted by Neil Young View PostAre you really suggesting there is no racist component to singing a song in support of a person who called someone else a "black ****" and in the process singing about setting two black men on fire?

Were they signing in support of Terry, straight before? This is the first I heard of it (as I wasn't watching - I don't care about international football)The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
