Barton: Terry's only got himself to blame
Published 18:56 03/02/12 By MirrorFootball
Serial tweeter Joey Barton has claimed John Terry has only himself to blame for being stripped of the England captaincy over the Anton Ferdinand racism row.
The FA decided to take the armband away from Chelsea star Terry because he will not go to trial for allegedly racially abusing QPR defender Ferdinand in a match last October until after this summer's European Championship finals.
Terry emphatically denies the charge.
Barton, Ferdinand's captain at QPR, used Twitter to claim that while he does not believe Terry is a racist, the Chelsea man should have admitted his error and taken any punishment on the chin long ago.
The midfielder, who has over a million followers on the social networking site, tweeted: "This John Terry saga, has turned into one of the most hideously managed spectacles I have ever known. WTF is going on.
"Do I think hes a racist? No. I think hes said something really stupid in the heat of battle/argument. This should of been dealt with instantly (Like Suarez or more games) and put to bed. The longer it goes on, the worse it is for the game.
"This is now affecting England as well as those involved. I dont understand how its managed to get this drawn out or out of control.
"The FA wants to shape up and sharpish. How can they strip him of the captaincy, when hes not been foound guilty in the courts of the land?
"Whats the point of going to court? He should of took his punishment for what he said. This is now helping nobody.
"The one I feel for is Anton, hes done nowt wrong and has to be the subject of speculation and the possibility of going to court to give evidence.
"Once the issue went out of the FA's control, it was always going to get messy. They should have dealt with it instantly. Now its a farce.
"Think Terry's only got himself to blame.
"Whose the winner in all of this? I cant think of anyone... can you? What a debacle its turned into. Sad state of affairs. Heads should roll."
I love the way Barton says it as it is but with the court case still pending should he really have made some of his comments?

Why the **** are the mirror increasing the pulicity of the comments and making it worse, increasing the likelihood of prejudicing the trial ffs? What Joey Barton thinks on the matter is hardly news in itself. Stupid stupid *******s.Originally posted by marcus50bucks View PostBarton: Terry's only got himself to blame

Regarding Barton's comments, surely the judge should have realised that the delay in the trial, and the crazy levels of media attention given to the England team and the Euros will make it pretty likely that somebody would say something that could prejudice the trial, intentionally or otherwise. Ridiculous that it took the police/CPS so long to bring the charges and ridiculous that the trial hasn't already happened.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years
