I bet that in 4 years time, Cole Palmer’s stock will be lower than it is now, off the back of last season. Selling at the peak isn’t pessimism. And a living dog is better than a dead lion.

      You think?

Palmer has a pretty high ceiling imo.

Jackson, much less so, again, imo.

But anyway, based on the balance of probabilities, most players in first team squads at clubs like Chelsea generally negotiate better wages for each contract throughout their twenties. How many really have their career curtailed by injury? Some, sure, but nowhere near the majority. So to sign a nine year contract because you might end up with a career ending injury seems like a pretty pessimistic outlook from where I'm sat.

Signing yourself away for what should be your peak years just seems like a bad judgement to me. And I'd call myself as generally risk-averse in my personal outlook.
      Oh I don't know.

Yet more fiddling going on, and approved by the Premier league

Chelsea have been cleared by the Premier League for the sale of two hotels to a sister company to keep them compliant with profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

The Blues published their accounts in April, revealing the sale of the Millennium and Copthorne hotels next to Stamford Bridge for £76.5m in an effort to help them avoid a potential £166.4m loss, reducing it to an allowable £89.9m for the financial year.

The hotels changed ownership from Chelsea FC Holdings Ltd to BlueCo 22 Properties Ltd, two companies under the control of the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership.

The sales have since been ratified by the Premier League under what is termed a 'fair market valuation' under the league's associated-party transaction rules.

Whether the £76.5m value has been changed is unclear but Chelsea have maintained their confidence in adhering to PSR rules that permitted clubs to have a maximum of £105m in losses over a three-year period as certain costs for infrastructure, academy and women's football are allowed to be deducted.

Such transactions are not allowed in Uefa competitions, with Chelsea back in Europe in the Conference League this season, and in the English Football League after they closed the loophole in 2021, but the Premier League opted against following suit.

The Premier League remains open to closing the loophole through a future vote.

An attempt to ban such transactions within the league was most recently attempted by Premier League members in June but only a reported 11 clubs supported the idea, with a minimum of 14 needed required to vote through a change to the regulations.

What a turnaround from last season.

All the title talk is around Arsenal, City and us. Not much re Chelsea, though they are now second

I’m guessing they might fall away as their fixtures become more difficult, but given their squad size they might well have the depth to go deep into the season

They are looking pretty decent and Fernandez is actually looking like a decent midfielder again.

                        They have 2 squads!

One for domestic, one for Europe.

The fact that they can concentrate on the league only will help them big time

How are Chelsea in this world club cup thing and we aren't. Not that I'd want to be in it.

Because it's a 4 year cycle, the CL winners of the last 4 years qualify (Chelsea 2021, Man City 2023 and Real Madrid 2022 & 2024), UEFA has 12 places in total, the remaining places go to the sides with the highest 4 year UEFA rankings, or at least they would do were places not limited to 2 per country*. As Chelsea and Man City had already qualified from England our place was passed on to the side with the next highest UEFA ranking who was eligible (Other sides to miss out for this reason include RB Leipzig, Barcelona, Napoli, Seville and AC Milan)

                                * I believe winning the CL over rules this and gives automatic qualification, so had we won the 2022 CL instead of Madrid we would have joined both Chelsea and Man City in the competition
