Surely he has to understand that if he signed for us and did well in his first season he’d probably be given a payrise exceeding what Spurs are offering ATM.If we were offering something derisory then it’s understandable but I’m guessing that we’re offering a decent bit more that what he was willing to accept at Swansea.

If it was us vs United then I'd have doubts, but I would be shocked if he signed for a club with no manager as opposed to a club with a manager who he has played under twice and has a good relationship with.
Suppose it depends on the salary difference. If it's a couple of grand a week then he should be ours, if we're talking £10-20k difference then that might be enough to turn his head.Comment

Ben Smith has siad he'd update tonight but nothing yet. he should put it to bed.
One Icelandic Journo reckons were favourite and Spurs not involved due to manager situation but I think he's is assuming that would stop the lad signing but it wouldn't.
Rumours amongst Spurs fans that they have their manager but it can't be announced for some reason (AVB? Chelsea gardening leave?)
It fully appears we have not offered a very attractive package as the Icelandic Journo's reckon even Reading offered him better pay (new owners there).
They reckon he is due back to UK tomorrow to finalise/have medical this week.
Read nothing that makes me think it is not Spurs.

If he plays for us he has to accept that he will probably never play for his boyhood team the Mancs. OGS made this sacrifice though the opposite way. Will it bother Gylfi?
People out there are making assumptions were favourites because of Brendan but he only managered for a few months at Reading and half a season at the Swans. Is the bond that close?

If we think he's just another player and he's playing it out for more money, move on.

He is no longer on holiday an hasn't been since the middle of last week.
All the decent journos and Icelandic media are singing from the same hymn sheet on this. I've read at least 3 different articles where this is stated, plus the lad who reckons he is mates with Gylfis brother on YNWA also backs this up.
Besides Ben Smith the British journos haven't got a sniff on this and there all looking to the Icelandic sources and colleagues to help them. Even the Journo on Anfield Wrap earlier admitted this.
