for anyone who cares, icelanders don't have last names per se. they use a patronymic name system, in this case gylfi's second name is sigurdsson: son of sigurd, which is literally his father's name. if gylfi had a sister named thora, her name would be thora sigurdsdatter. but just like bjork, the first name is the important one, patronymic name is only used to differentiate between two guys named gylfi.
gylfi is properly addressed as gylfi rather than mr. sigurdsson, or just sigurdsson.

Aha...I see you have been frequenting the same dark and irksome corners of the Twittersphere as I have today. Beware, it is a very dank and dangerous place. It can suck you in, and before you know it you have 32 tabs open, following Eigur from Reykavik, because you Google translated one of his tweets and it spoke of the one they call "Gylfi".Originally posted by little dave hedgehog View Postfor anyone who cares, icelanders don't have last names per se. they use a patronymic name system, in this case gylfi's name is sigurdsson: son of sigurd, which is literally his father's name.

It is a strong, dark and magical force that the prophets prophecised only the most noble, trusted and wise can handle without being driven insane. You will know them by their mark.......
