    gets a better salary
plays in a competitive team with good players, that finished fourth last season
has the chance to move to United at some point
lives in London (might be a draw for somw)

If he moves to Liverpool, he:

    gets to play for Liverpool
plays in a decent team that finished 8th

No brainer for someone who is not a Liverpool fan really. The club needs a wake up call really.
But by moving to Spurs he`ll go to a club:
    -Without a manager
-Could end up selling at least one of their best player

By moving to Liverpool he`ll get:
    -a manger that wants him
-maybe a new/bigger stadium if he stays for the rest his career

Maybe they said to him, look we are getting Rafa Benitez in and iot will announced after the Euro's, he wants you and here is a ****load of cash.

The stadium is a long shot and doubt he cares about that, he is driven and wants success. Tottenham might sell Modric but that would mean more playing time for Gylfi and they won't be paying 70 k a week for sitting on the bench. I feel we are losing out on a potentially top player for the sake of a few thousand a week.

To be fair it would be difficult if Spurs came and said: "Modric is leaving, we what you to replace him and here`s cash to show we mean it".

If ever the owners would be willing to splash the cash on a player its now, having made their 'strategic' manager appointment. If he doesn't come, its because Rodgers doesn't think he's worth the money involved imo.
Or it may be he doesn't think much of Rodgers. If he's not coming so be it, we need to move on to our next target but this doesn't bode well for the immediate future.

He could be told who their targets are and be pleased with that. Jan Vertonghen has said even though Spurs do not have a manager he wants to play for the CLUB not a specific manager. If i am honest i can understand it if Gylfi chose Spurs over us as he is not taking a step down in terms of where the two clubs are right now. Spurs are on the up and over the last three seasons we have been on the decline.

                that sounds highly unlikely.

yes. It would mean he is worth more to them than to us. Which is a pretty good reason for us offering less than them.

Just as an example, feel free to replace Rafa with whom ever. Spurs are more attractive than us at the moment I fear, look at Verthongen. they are also getting good young players in while we have no been linked to anyone of note.

I think this is a clear sign that Rodgers is following him to spurs.

Is sigurdsson as things stand worth 70k a week.

I dont think so. In fact I woukd have said 35k is plenty for a lad that has potential but isnt anywhere near the finished article yet. If spurs want to spend that sort of money then let them but if its true then the people within their camp will already be knocking on levys door asking for more money

I wasn`t serious about the stadium, but you have to give give the club any positives you can.

So let me get this straight. We spent years over paying players in order to try and compete, and in doing so are suffering now. None of us want to do that again. But now the first player we go for might be going elsewhere were all a bit upset.

We cant have it both ways, Id rather the club offer the money they think is acceptable, and let the player decide. There is no point in getting into a bidding war, otherwise we will have another Joe Cole or Aquilani situation on our hands.

Spurs will sort out a manager and the prospect of replacing Modric rather than playing second fiddle to him shouldn't faze him if he has ambition.

I agree. Not much you can or should do if someone is prepared to over pay. (if this is all true of course.)
