I think someone hit the nail on the head previously when they suggested there is an air of arrogance at the club at timesOriginally posted by Bender View Postyou'd have thought he would jump through hoops to go to Liverpool and Rodgers
Its almost a "come and join us and play for nothing because we are Liverpool"
You cant take the piss out of people, if you are offerring derisory amounts and just trading on your name then you will often fail to complete
Then the flipside to this is us going the complete end of the spectrum and blowing £90K and £120 K per week on Aquilani & Cole

They still have a pretty strict wages structureOriginally posted by Fan65 View PostNot if Modric is off for big money, Spurs will need a replacement and will have the cash to burn on the deal.
If the report that he is getting £70K per week is true then he would be one of Spurs' highest earnersBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

We've traded on reputation a lot in past dealsOriginally posted by NigelLG View PostWe need to pay/outbid other clubs to sign quality players. Wtf are we trying to do? Reputation alone, it seems, isn't going to make them run and sign for us. It does look like we're reverting to type. I'd rather have Commolli back, at least he had the balls to take a punt.
We almost invariably end up losing them and when we do spunk the cash its very rare we ever get value for moneyBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

You snooze you lose if your opening offer is so derisory then he might not even come back to the tableOriginally posted by Resu View PostThere is always the possibility to go back with a better offer. If the original offer is what the club thinks he`s worth I don`t have much problem with that.
If it`s so that the club can`t afford to even match Reading it is a concern, but I don`t belive that is the case. There are ways to get Cole and Aquilani of the wage bill if we`re desperate enough. I think the club has other targets in sight and wants to get them instead of paying more to Gylfi than they think he`s worth.
I`d still quite like to get him, but not at any cost.
Shame I wanted him and I actually think he was probably one of our top targetsBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I agree that if you put in a an offer that is basically taking the piss it could end any chances. But to me that doesn`t seem to be the case here. It looks like we were in the lead, until Spurs came with their offer. Which means he thought our offer was good enough at one point. After Spurs came in our offer isn`t good enough anymore, so we`ll have to give him a better one. I`d find it very starnge if he`s not interested in listening to us now, since we were his primary option not long ago.Originally posted by Lecter View PostYou snooze you lose if your opening offer is so derisory then he might not even come back to the table

*IF* this is true - because this is just speculation, obv - I think this reflects more on Gilf than us; Rodgers will know the salary he was on at Swansea (and Hoffenheim) and will know roughly what terms would have enticed him to stay there - if Rodgers had stayed.
Rodgers will have (hopefully) offered the same again. Just because we are Liverpool doesn't mean we should pay more than he would have accepted at Swansea. If his head has been turned by Spurs' money, he's moved for the wrong reasons.
But we'll see what happens.Last edited by Muddled; 26-06-12, 09:18 AM.

Why? t's not like we are better than Tottenham. gets a better salary
plays in a competitive team with good players, that finished fourth last season
has the chance to move to United at some point
lives in London (might be a draw for somw)
If he moves to Liverpool, he:
gets to play for Liverpool
plays in a decent team that finished 8th
No brainer for someone who is not a Liverpool fan really. The club needs a wake up call really.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

If anyone knows what he's worth its Rodgers. If Rodgers had come in and sais said 'i need the player, he's going to be a world beater and is integral to my plans' then I am sure we'll pay whatever it takes to get him. If ever the owners would be willing to splash the cash on a player its now, having made their 'strategic' manager appointment. If he doesn't come, its because Rodgers doesn't think he's worth the money involved imo.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

i'd normally accept that to an extent. But they don't have a manager. He wouldn't know whether the manager would play him, or whether the new manager would have them challenging.Originally posted by The_weatherman View PostWhy? t's not like we are better than Tottenham. Kind of what I'm saying, Spurs look a better team and they offer more money as well. Why on earth should he pick Liverpool then? Don't see why he should.Originally posted by cream View PostMaybe he feels he has a better chance of playing of playing in the CL with spurs? we looks miles away whilst they finished fourth...* The above is posted in my opinion.
