Yeah, true that mate. They also desperately need a striker although I suppose it depends what system their new manager will use and whether VdV will go.

If he leaves and Adebayour returns to City (or goes somewhere else), then that leaves them with just Defoe doesn't it?!?!

@c_mcintosh1 #LFC have not given up hope but they are not prepared to match Sigurdsson's 'astronomical' wage demands. #Spurs favourites

Good. If he's trying to take the piss just because of who we are then **** him, giving in to that sort of thing is what's got us such a ridiculous wage bill in the first place.

Not signing the guy would not signify a lack of ambition imo, it would signify finally us having got our heads on straight.
While I agree we have to keep our wage structure within our financial limitations, in order to compete for players, we're going to have to offer packages more attractive than other teams. If we have some sort of fixed structure, every team will splash the cash on 1 or 2 players and we will lose far more than we win.

If BR wants Gylfi, we should be getting Gylfi. A team like Spurs, on a similar financial structure to us, similar stadium situation to us, we should be winning those battles. If we can't afford, that is worrying. If the club's valuation of the player is lower than what is required, have a plan in place to find better targets who fit the plan. But we can't lose them all or we're in trouble. I don't know what the plan is for BR and new players, so I can't say I am confident nor am I troubled. But LFC in recent years have not filled me with much confidence at all, so I can only hope they can get what needs getting.

Don't think it's because of who we are, it's because Spurs have come in and offered him substantially more, he's then by the sounds of things, given us the option of matching it.

So much for all the talk about him not being motivated by money and only playing time.

My only slight worry is that players that make things happen offensively cost a lot and are also a rare commodity imo, so if you can get one cheapish, and under the radar of the wealthier clubs, i think it's worth a punt, you still have the option to sell them in future.

Time will tell who made the right call.

If he's really asking for near 70 grand a week he can **** off.

Still find it hard to believe Spurs are willing to pay that, especially considering that he apparently wasn't on their radar till this week.

Is the Guardian a good ITK?

I do love the Gylfi Songs in this thread. Wonderful. Can't wait to sing them...

Too early for that. If Spurs are selling him for 30 mill in two years because he's been epic, then you can moan.

For now, he's just another player we did't get.

Nope, just dont agree with your "the world is going to end" attitude based on rumour. Even MrM mentioned it earlier so it's not just me thats noticed it.
