I think Henderson has progressed in the last 12 months I've not got too many worries about him long term

Allen on the other hand I struggle to see what he offers

He isnt a holding player as his defensive work is terrible. Rodgers himself suggested hes better further up the pitch

But to play the old Gerrard role you have to be contributing assists and goals and once again this is lacking enormously in Allens game

I suppose he could play the "Alonso role" but Xabi dictated play and did a lot of defensive work through clever positioning and he was also exceptional with his passing range - Allens isnt anywhere near that level

I honestly reckon hes a squad player who you bring on when you are a couple of goals up and want to slow down the game and close it out

both him and borini were bought to play 433 with allen as the middle of the 3 midfield players and borini on the right hand side.

we dont play that way anymore so both are redundant. I agree that no one really knows what allens strengths are because we're not sure what he's supposed to be doing on the pitch.

after gerrard's departure i think we will know more about what he can bring to the team because as it stands gerrard doesnt allow him nor henderson to play their own game.

henderson i really like but i dont like the fact that he's constantly moved all over the pitch to fill in gaps in our 1st team. hes a much better player than that.

Needs to be like this every week. But that performance has ben slowly creeping in. He was good at Goodison for the most, played well v Norwich and was good again today.

Thats a blow to lose Gerrard to injury but Henderson, Allen and Lucas looked very hard working and energetic as a trio. I think we can cope. We'll miss Stevies creativity at times and his set pieces are a weapon. This is Allens chance to show why Rodgers rates him so highly
