Spearing, Adam & Allen aren't good enough. Hopefully Allen improves next season but he is very far off getting in the first 11 & with potential signings in the summer.. maybe even further.

I can't believe what I'm reading
1 - Allen was playing to cover Lucas after Lucas injured himself against City. Thats is a fact. He wasn't signed to be our holding / defensive midfielder and due to Gerrard's adjustment period and Sahin's inclusion, was overwhelmed running a central midfield which had very little energy.
2 - Charlie Adam plays football like he's pissed. He charges around, trips over opposition players, carries the ball for 15 yards and has to either welly it or just give it back to the opposition because his wee fat legs can't carry him any further. This is proven. He has done it for Liverpool, Stoke and several times for Scotland. He balloons long passes over stands and has the distribution skills of Jessie Pinkman in the early episodes of Breaking Bad. He's ****ing ****.
3 - Spearing is a tiny man who was playing infinitely above his level - it was almost unfair putting him in a Liverpool midfield and expecting him to carry us when he has Ewok shoulders.
I can't believe that anyone has forgotten how chronically **** that mid table championship central midfield was. Joe Allen is miles better than those two.

following on from Dan and Tee...
i think joe allen is a much better footballer than either spearing or adam, but his contribution isnt going to actually improve our teams results.
he has a go, but really isnt beefy enough to be a tackler. he prefers an interception.
he isnt the forward facing aggressive runner that will help set up play, make assists, or be chipping in with a valid goal contributions.
15m...removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Like I said to Matt, fair enough, but likewise I haven't forgotten how chronically ****e Allen was from October onwards. Forget his price tag etc I just think it is fair to compare his contribution to that of Adam and Spearing both of whom are genuinely utter ****e midfielders (for LFC level).Originally posted by Daniel 7 View PostI can't believe what I'm reading

We don't know how long he was carrying that injury and he was coming into an unsure, unsettled side. I think if we get away from thinking of him as a central fulcrum for everything the team does and start thinking of him as a squad member that brings certain attributes, then the general perception will be better.
I don't think he's "the answer", I think he is a team member who will do a specific job when we need to keep possession or dictate the pace. Its worked before with him, I'm sure it will again.

I hope you are right and he does have a better second season but I have serious reservations. Just cannot see him ousting any of the other midfielders unless he really steps his level up several notches.Originally posted by Daniel 7 View PostWe don't know how long he was carrying that injury and he was coming into an unsure, unsettled side. Also, no sympathy from me about his injury. If it was that bad he should have had the op sooner not played and compromised our team in games where we dropped vital points. Poor management there."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

I think Allen is in a similar position to Henderson and Downing last summer. Coming into a side in transition, signed for an over-the-odds fee, patchy (at best) form, etc
The question is whether he can turn things around and become a useful part of the squad (like Henderson has). Personally I think he will - he might not be first choice, but he'll be a different option and give us possibilities when we need to try something different.
Its a make or break season for him though

The squad wasn't exactly flush with options at the time though was it? Its only since then that Jordan came through to prove himself and they signed Coutinho.Originally posted by Tee View PostI hope you are right and he does have a better second season but I have serious reservations. The squad is still bare. I think he needs a bit of time. I remember Hamann was bothered with injury and mixed form when he joined - not saying he's as good as that - but he could be a lot better than he has shown.

Early in the season he showed that he does possess a skill set to play at a very high level but atm I have to say I feel the same way.Originally posted by Tee View PostThe way this team is shaping up I just cannot see him being a regular next season.
I also do not think he and Lucas can play together effectively.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

Allen was fine playing alongside Lucas. Then Lucas got injured and he was fine playing alongside Gerrard. Then he had a kid. Then Lucas came back, we'd adapted our play to have Gerrard deeper and it was difficult to see where he fit.
This is a fact: If we played Lucas & Gerrard every game, there'd be no place for Allen, he struggled as the most forward of the midfield three.
But football is a squad game these days and he'll play a fair amount of games. Up to him if he can build on those starts he gets and show how good he is.Forwards.......

Exactly the point I was making too. Its great to have tactical flexibility and flies in the face of "Brendan only knows how to play one way"

Lots of people said Henderson looked sh*te last season. Give Allen enough time before making a judgment..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.
