i think at the start of last season joe allen looked good, but the way he was playing was more ball retention and nothing really in the way of creating any penetration. i dont know if this was because of instructions from the manager or this is how allen plays as i havent seen much of his play at swansea.

he might have looked good at what he was doing but to me it looked like we might never pass forward.

His movement going forward in the Olympiacos game was what he did at Swansea. Rodgers also referred to this in an interview with the various podcasts last season when talking about what Allen can offer in a more advanced position.

I can't wait to see what he'll bring in terms of bombing forward and relaying the ball to the wider areas. It'll certainly make us play at a faster tempo.

i dont think its a question of one or the other but rather it being a squad game. Im sure both will see plenty of time on the pitch and hopefully both can produce.

Yep, though I would start Hendo v Stoke. I think he plays that AM role more effectively, but tbf to Allen he did do well on Saturday.

Not the greatest fan of Allen but really hope he does well this season and proves to be a good squad player for us. We need all the help we can get this season and certainly can't afford any passengers

Hope so bender, I was actually surprised to see him so far up the field getting into attacking positions. I this the real joe Allen we have all be waiting to see ? Fkn hope so

Like many people I'm not a huge fan, and its probably unfair to write a player off after one season.

Many times last season he looked weak in CM and was getting mugged when in possession, hopefully though he can kick on and progress a bit like Henderson has. I don't think he lacks the ability, he was just lacking sharpness and bottle to try different things other than a 5 yard pass to Gerrard.
