Sad to say but its true that two young players aged 23 are used as scapegoats by their own fans.

The thing is Nigey. People see/think what they want. Regardless of the truth/reality. One thing, Allen is definitely a team player. But the aforementioned ( not you) will never be able to see that

It was an awful miss but he didn't have as bad a game. Thought we started to lose control of the midfield when he went off.

Same here.

He should have put that away but in terms of performance he was ok.

Needs more games to get in game shape but it will be interesting to see if awful miss affected his confidence.

i dont really understand why allen is operating as the furthest forward of our midfield 3. For me thats a more defensive than offensive move designed to win the ball back quickly once we've lost it. so in one way it allows us to keep the ball in the oppositions final third, but it renders him almost useless once we have it.

he's not going to get you many goals or assists. Even assists to the assist but he didnt have a bad game overall.

i think we will see the best of Joe Allen once gerrard is no longer an automatic first choice as he seems to be scared to play him game when stevie's with him. same for henderson. they will only fulfill their potential once gerrard is off the scene imo.

I think Henderson has progressed in the last 12 months I've not got too many worries about him long term

Allen on the other hand I struggle to see what he offers

He isnt a holding player as his defensive work is terrible. Rodgers himself suggested hes better further up the pitch

But to play the old Gerrard role you have to be contributing assists and goals and once again this is lacking enormously in Allens game

I suppose he could play the "Alonso role" but Xabi dictated play and did a lot of defensive work through clever positioning and he was also exceptional with his passing range - Allens isnt anywhere near that level

I honestly reckon hes a squad player who you bring on when you are a couple of goals up and want to slow down the game and close it out
