Ajax confirm Liverpool are leading chase for Eriksen as race to sign midfielder hots up

Liverpool are favourites to sign Christian Eriksen after Ajax technical director Marc Overmars confirmed they have persistently scouted the midfielder this season.
Eriksen will be one of the hottest transfer targets in Europe this summer when he leaves Ajax – he has 12 months remaining on his contract but he will not sign another deal – yet the groundwork Liverpool have put means they are heading the chase.
The Denmark international is aware of Liverpool’s interest and has been impressed with the way Luis Suarez has thrived after making a similar move to Anfield from Amsterdam in January 2011.

Tottenham are also interested in Eriksen, who turned down an approach from Manchester City two summers ago, but Overmars said Liverpool’s continued presence has been noted.
‘We have the list of scouts of foreign clubs who have been here recently and Liverpool have been a regular visitor,’ Overmars said.
‘We want him to stay here for at least two more years, but the day he leaves, he will be ready to play for the very best. He is a player that even the biggest clubs in the world could do with having in their squad.’

Signing Eriksen would send a great signal out to other targets this summer that we really mean business. Exciting and reassuring to be linked with this calibre of player.

Why would Spurs be after him? They are well stocked in that position aren't they?

He'd be worshipped here. The natural successor to the 06-09 model Gerrard.

I really wish Spurs would **** off. Do they have to go after nearly every player we're in for? He'd surely choose Spurs over us, you'd just hope that Spurs aren't interested enough to spend £15m+ on him.
I'd love if we got Eriksen, he looked class in those games against Man City and his goals and assists tally is impressive. We'd probably have to drop Sturridge and move Suarez forward to make room for him but I'd be happy with that.

                        Same here.

Like the fact that we are finally linked up with some decent talent but I'd be very pleasantly surprised if he ends up with us.

They have Holtby and Sigurdsson who are somewhat similar type of players so it would be unusual to see them spend the money from sale of Bale on the position that they have pretty decent options.

On paper he seems the perfect fit.

I hope we can pull it off and it's not just another transfer saga that seems to drag on for years like, Alves, Aguero etc.

Apparently Chelsea have entered the race to sign Christian Eriksen. As if they don't have enough midfielders already...

I fear there will be a number of teams in for him, I wouldn't be shocked to see some interest from Italy and Spain either

We're not going to sign him although i would love it if we did. He will have loads of options in the summer and the top CL teams await.
