On the basis of the last two appearances, he's been refreshingly committed, calming and aware - no sign of the Kolo the Clown antics.
Two good games on the trot sounds suspiciously llike a player in form, and it would make no sense to throw Lovren back in instead of him.
I would be really annoyed if him and Lucas get shoved to one side after their excellent defensive performances. It also just shows how a calm and organised defence helps Mig perform aswell.
I don't think anyone in the starting 11 came out of Tuesday badly to be honest. Manquillo is a young player who had a hard time against Marcelo - Allen wasted possession - but they're playing Real Madrid - they're up against some of the best in the world - it's excusable. How Brendan's going to shape his midfield with the likes of Cout, Hendo and Gerrard after Can and Lucas' excellent displays will be hard. I'd be tempted to just replace Markovic for Sterling, and Allen for Henderson, and keep the rest the same - with Balotelli, Cout and Gerrard providing options from the bench.

This.Originally posted by Zapater View PostAnd even if he does have a poor game, it's not like we've got anything to lose as Lovren has strung about 10 of those together in succession. Giving him a couple of games can't really hurt.
Lovren (and Balotelli for that matter) have had more than a fair crack of games. I would like to see us stick with Kolo for the next couple of games at least, and it would be good to see Lallana and Can be given an extended run in the team."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." I know Kolo had a good game the other night. But I'm beginning to think I had some sort of amnesia about last season?
He was woeful for large parts of it, and if anything cost us 4 points and the league arguably with his wonder goal for Fulham and his world class through ball for West Brom.*Except Michael, who died.

In our current situation I agree with you, but if Lovren was having a good season then I'd be saying nah, Kolo is ****. Willing to give anything a try at the moment.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostI get this but surely we have to have some sort of meritocracy? Lovren in no way deserves to be playing and Kolo did well enough the other night, more than well enough, to get a crack in the next game.
He did some great stuff in the game against Madrid, but lets not get too carried away, he had some pretty scary moments where he got a bit lucky. Remember him crashing into the Mignolet? When Two Clowns Collide.
