Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Ended up going for the mystery option and picked up a Specialized Tarmac Sport for £1200. I tried a load yesterday and that was the one I felt really comfortable on. Almost got a Trek Madone 3.5 but it just didnt feel quite as right. The dudes at the shop are even swapping the pedals out for clips and sorted me out with a few other bits and pieces. Should hopefully get it next weekend.Originally posted by Neil Young View Post

What did you go for?
Mega excited! Swimming lessons are booked too. I'll be single again by October
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

We got Coutinho for about £10m less than we should, we are putting that extra £10m to getting Willian who should improve the team.Originally posted by rcasemore View PostI don't see why the fee bother you so much, the scouts and Rodgers apparently rate him and don't think the fee is too high hence we're supposedly in for him in or around the fee quoted.
Happy days. The times they are a changin'.

From where I was sitting it was. Or 4411 if youre fussy. The only good thing about being high up is that you can see the formations wellOriginally posted by john316 View Post
Thats not to say we played it like a traditional 442 but we did defend with that shape. There was a clear line of 4 behind Aspas and Sturridge.
Obviously the front 4 drifted, the fullbacks were high and was more 424 in attack with lots of movement. I thought it was cleverly done. We smothered the life out of them for the most part.Sack swinging like Dub-D40 on a door hinge

If there needed to be more evidence that formations are increasingly nominative and waning in importance, look no further than this debate.
If you want to call it something, it looked to me a bit 4-4-1-1, with Aspas as a second striker in behind Sturridge. Though you could also call it a 4-2-3-1, as Gerrard and Lucas sat deeper than Coutinho and Henderson. (Hendo, and not Aspas, was definitely on the right; the heat maps and action areas make that point pretty obvious.) It was quite asymmetrical though, as Hendo came inside to become part of the midfield than Coutinho, who functioned as an attacker and had something of a free role at times. But if you want to make that point as clearly as possible, it was a 4-2-1-1-1-1. Which is a ridiculous label.
I've increasingly come to the conclusion that, while Rodgers may have a basic idea of a formation, the actual shape is going to be determined by who's playing and who we're facing. Aside from the three-at-the-back experiments, a 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-4-1-1, 4-4-2 - we played all of them during preseason, and we played them pretty much the same way, and with a healthy dose of fluidity and interchange to muddle things up even more. The style is more important, and that remains the same.
So...Willian, eh?
