Why football is facing major change, despite 'toxicity' of Project Big Picture plan

When Premier League chief executive Richard Masters addressed a parliamentary hearing on 10 November, he delivered a line all English football could agree on, despite the fierce opposition that followed Project Big Picture's unexpected unveiling a month before.

    "Change is coming."

Masters was talking about the situation in Europe, where negotiations around the expansion of Uefa's club competitions have been taking place for 17 months now.

However, if England's so-called 'big six' clubs have their way, that "change" will be far more extensive than what appears set to happen on the continent - an expanded format for all European club competitions, including the Champions League group stage.

An 18-team Premier League, no more EFL Cup or Community Shield, B teams, the scrapping of FA Cup replays. All these were mentioned within the Project Big Picture proposals, which became public ahead of schedule at the beginning of October when they were leaked to the Daily Telegraph.

What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

Good piece. And about a quarter the length of an article in The Athletic

Sounds like the assistant, when asked to identify who should be sent to the stands, said something equivalent to 'the black guy' in Romanian. Black be negru in Romanian. Could be a contentious one this, although the above is obviously unclear at this stage. Race as an identifier is not necessarily racial abuse.

Surely wouldn't be too hard for a mic to pickup exactly what was said considering the lack of crowd, game coverage etc

I don't think what was said is really in question, but I could be wrong. It was an n word, but not the n word as we know it.

This kind of incident is difficult, it can fuel resentment both ways. Personally, based on is being reported, I don't think leaving the field was the right response

True, but the offended lad is clearly saying it was the 'n word'......that can be picked up quite clearly in all the kerfuffle, so surely the initial incident must be ?

                        I dunno

                        Game back on soon apparently

Good on them to walk out. This sort of **** needs to stop. No football game until this crap is kicked out of the game.
                          Are we winning?

Demba Ba was saying the 4th official said “the black guy”. It’s unacceptable.

It's on mic that Ba is asking him why he said negro, the officials are telling him 'romanian language' ie negru for black.

Now whether it is appropriate to use skin colour as a differentiator is highly questionable, especially when you could walk up and point or something, but to abandon a game over, hmm not sure about that.

Easy to say, but you have to define 'this', and then what's proportional to it.
