Regardless of how much I might be pleased with any of those signings individually.
...but isn't the case that we shouldn't have a set 'starting eleven' we should just aim to have a much, much stronger squad to drop in whichever players Brendan wants to use to beat what's in front of us week in, week out...?

I think Brendan's more aiming for a 'first class 16' every week...

I think if whatever changes we make over the summer give us a functional defence I will be more than pleased. If we build a better defence and increase squad depth (the latter already looks likely) then I think we will have done excellently.

No. Johnson maybe, but I think Flannagan is his competition, which is A OK with me, dig?

Lucas, assuming he's not going to go all Sarb about not starting, would be an excellent squad player

I think Johnson is the weak link there. Would prefer Flanno.

              Sorry Glen

Johnson is a far better player. The gulf between them is huge.

For better and huge seems somewhat ott for me

I think on his day GJ is one of the best RBs n the league. Problem is he hasn't had his day for nigh on a season, which is pushing thethe point where he could be forgiven for having an off day or carrying an injury

And while Flannagan makes so tackles that look good, he is beaten far too easily, especially on the inside, is slow in recovery and poor in positioning and reactions. Johnson a hugely better player.

In top form I totally agree, Flanno did a great job for us last season all things considered however objectively he has a ton of development to do before he can be considered a top class full back. His attitude and the situation he was thrust into rather seem to have blinded people to his obvious weaknesses, as he is right now. It is a bit of a random stat but he was the most dribbled past player in the league last season, and it did show at times.

Johnson has been top class for years, even if of late his form has taken a terrible nose dive. As they ended the season I would honestly consider dropping Glen, but on the basis of overall footballing ability Johnson has clearly demonstrated a level in the past Flanno has not yet come remotely close to.

It looks like we'll be adding Lambert and Lallana to our attacking options but I still think we need one more to really compete again with the likes of Chelsea and Man City. When I say compete, I mean to come above them and win the league.

Konoplyanka is an obvious choice, who looks the business, but I don't think it's happening (burnt bridges?) which is a shame as he would be a snip at £10m or so.

I wouldn't drop Skrtel next season. After the season he's just had he doesn't deserve it imo - he was our best defender. I'd give the Skrtel/Sakho partnership more time to gel.

One thing I will say is Sakho has to be our 1st choice CB next season - give him games consistently and he'll thrive on it.
