I think you and I discussed Walker on here recently. What a player he was, a real Rolls Royce.

I was at Hillsborough for Klinsmann's debut when he did the dive celebration. Great game that. Spurs had another lad make his debut, when foreign players were rare - Ilie Dumitrescu. Class player he was.

Back in those days watching Utd not do well in Europe was about all we had mid week eh!

Redondo was immense. He also gets bonus maverick/cool points for not getting his hair cut thus missing out on playing for his country.

Redondo turned down a call-up to the national team just before the 1990 FIFA World Cup, when it was coached by Carlos Salvador Bilardo. The player excused himself on account of not wanting to interrupt his law studies, but it was also reported that he objected to Bilardo's defensive strategy.Redondo later explained: "I was picked for Argentina's World Cup squad in 1990 but I knew I wasn't going to be in the starting line-up, I would just be another squad member, so I preferred to stay home."

In the 1994 World Cup Redondo started in all of Argentina's matches, but was unable to prevent the country from falling 2–3 to Romania in the round-of-16. Following the tournament in the United States he refused to play under Daniel Passarella who had banned long hair, earrings and homosexuals in his squad, leading to disputes with several players. The former refused the latter's demand to cut his hair, and was left out of the national team, as even Diego Maradona and president Carlos Menem went on to take sides in the situation.

My favourite non LFC players would have mainly played in either the 1980s or 1990s. These four would have been my favourites.

        Michael Laudrup
        Fernando Hierro
        Pavel Nedved
        Andoni Goikoetxea

My British or UK based favourites from back then would have been

        Les Ferdinand
        Neville Southall
        Des Walker
        Matthew Le Tissier
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Walker would have been a great signing for us. Just seemed invincible before THAT moment at Wembley v Overmars.

Dumitrescu is a great shout, he was quality. Loved watching Ossie Ardiles' Spurs team, it was more exciting than Newcastle in their pomp IMO.

I really liked Dani Alves when he was at Sevilla. That team was great in the mid noughties.

I also liked Paul McGrath and John Salako.

Good shout re Chris Waddle, he was awesome! I saw him play for Sunderland right at the back end of his career, he wasn't exactly sprightly.

Used to love a couple of his old Marseille team mates though - Jean Pierre Papin and Abedi Pele. Did you know that Andre Ayew is Pele's son?

Colin Hendry and Tim Flowers were two I would have loved to have seen in the 90's Liverpool team.

During my goalkeeper phase as a lad, I was dumbstruck by Rinat Dasayev. Just out on his own in the 80s.
