The Spurs lads were utterly pathetic. Trippier was woeful on both goals though well done for the free kick. Alli seemed to think the game was a diving competition and Kane was a total waste of space. And Eric Dier, one of the worst players to ever play at a world cup comes on and stinks the joint out to complete the set.

I said at the start that I fancied England to win it. They have the energy, pace, and power to cause problems. They may not be the best players at their clubs, but they're still good players for them, making valid contributions toward their successes. You just have to harness that as a collective for a month. Argentina had Messi and Aguero, but failed miserably. Germany and Spain exiting the competition early, as did Portugal. It's not just about world class players.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostHow many of them are the best player in their club team? Or even second or third best? A squad of alright/decent players is ok if you have a worldie pulling the strings, like Croatia, but England just don't. France don't really, but they do have so many quality elsewhere.
Harry Kane is world class IMO. He's in that bracket for me. So that's one player.
Without him, I don't think England would've advanced as far as they did (even with the state of the draw).
I also said one of my concerns was Southgate's ability regarding managing fitness and conditioning. I think my concern was valid on that part.

It took the ref a while to sus the diving. Kyle Walker (ex spurs) was down rolling about from about 60 mins. Also Rose took a dive on a Croatia attack towards the end and stayed down - if they’d scored he’d have been hounded out of the country.
As soon as Dier came on for Henderson the game was gone, he’s an average CB playing in midfield. Seems to be no cover for Henderson really.Modifying post.

Surely individual erratic performances are based on stamina or luck that a player has no control over. Expecting Southgate to pick up 25ish disparate players after the vagaries of the PL season and manage every single variable is expecting too much. I really like everything I've read and heard about Southgate. I don't like every English player but I like the whole buzz about the team enough to be delighted that they got as far as the final. And I'm also pretty happy that that's where it ended.Originally posted by Phoenix07 View PostI said at the start that I fancied England to win it.
