I'm not sure how England were over-hyped in this tournament. No-one expected them to get this far at all.Originally posted by Tee View Post
Sums up the England team, overhyped and lucky to have had such an easy runExperimental music, Metropolitan foodstuffs, Mexican wrestler art, London suburbia, wry whimsy, fansy pants flim flam lad

I never met a single person who thought we were likely to win it at that stage. You can't blame people for just being happy that we were massively overachieving. For the first time in years I thought we had exactly the right level of hype coming into a tournament.Originally posted by Tee View PostThat all changed after the first knockout stage game....it’s coming home and all that ****e, like **** it is

This is the problem - context.
Look at the teams you faced. If you hadn't reached the semi-finals having faced those teams, there would've been something seriously wrong.
It's like when people say before the start of a season, 'oh I want us to get 4th and a cup'. What happens if we draw Man City away in FA Cup, Man Utd away in the Carabao Cup and get Real Madrid, Dortmund and Inter in the Champions League Group Stages, and get knocked out in all of them at the first attempt?
Even Greece had to face top players and teams to win Euro 2004.
I find it difficult to even judge how good this England team is, because of the quality they've faced, and that they've lost against the only two decent teams they've faced.

Not very good is the answer, but previous England teams would have struggled against Sweden and possibly have lost to Colombia. They're young and they're learning though - there's a lot more potential in the English game than there has ever been before. The future is probably not that dim for England. Except for the majority of our fans.Originally posted by Phoenix07 View Post

England won't get out of the group stages next time around as the confidence will be at a new high and that'll do for them.Originally posted by Tatterdemalion View PostNot very good is the answer, but previous England teams would have struggled against Sweden and possibly have lost to Colombia.
