Have to assume this was always the plan, wait until it’s too late for anyone to do anything. Makes you wonder what other assurances given might be bull**** too.

It looks that way, they clearly don't give a **** about what promises they made or agreements they signed.
FIFA made a rod for their own back awarding them the WC in the first place, also there have been 12 years of preparation for this, FIFA didn't have to agree a deal to have an official beer of the WC if they had known that they wouldn't have been allowed to sell it. Personally I don't think it would have been that much of an issue if they had had to have had a dry WC as long as they had been clear about that all along (in the bid process onwards) and a decision could have been made on that basis. But to have made disingenuous promises/arrangements is where the problem lies and changing they deal when the tournament is about to kick off is crazy. I can't help but feel you reap what you sow, the deal and award was dodgy from the start, if you deal with people like that then it seems somewhat inevitable that something like this could happen. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The amount of time they've had to have made this clear only to do it at the very last minute is pretty disgraceful tbh, ignore the beer being available or not it's about making last minute changes to plans in place for a long time and it being too late for anything to be done about it.
12 years or so since it was announced that the 2022 WC was awarded to Qatar, been moved from originally being held in the Summer with "air con stadiums" to November/December as that was clearly not going to work.
It's been a bit of a farce but on the positives we can hope we don't see this level of corruption again (for a while!)

Although it sounds crazy to agree, not sure they can really say much else publically, if they get into a battle with Qatar they aren't going to win and get the beer back in the stadia. Any public battle will just overshadow the WC and I doubt there are any legal routes that FIFA could go down to make this happen anyway, it is something that will have to be settled legally afterwards, I assume Budwiser will sue FIFA for breach of contract who will sue Qatar and it will all get messy. I wouldn't be surprised if the incompetence of FIFA meant that stuff that should have been agreed in the contracts wasn'tOriginally posted by Kenneth View PostFIFA is standing by the Qatari’s decision.

Devil's advocate...maybe everyone should respect their culture and religious beliefs?
Isn't that what do-gooding westerners go on about all the time now. Respect. Or does it only work when it doesn't actually affect you?"When a man insults my country I insult him, by taking his woman" Tony Yeboah
"looking through your posts since 2007 and what you have consistently written about my football team I have come to the conclusion that if you had 1 more brain cell you would be a plant .. your father was a hamster and your mother smells of elder berries, I fart in your general direction ..." Nicey

**** off with that ****
I don't think for a second anyone here is screaming about 'Muh BUdWeisEr' and demanding that the country changes their laws for the World Cup
As many have already said it's **** beer and at £12 for less than a pint it's hideously expensive, **** beer.
I think what we're all enjoying is the schadenfreude. In this case FIFAs

I couldn't give less of a **** about international football or Budweiser. I'm not particularly fussed about the ability to buy beer at football matches (wherever you go it's usually crap and overpriced). This for me is about watching FIFA reap what they sow.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Yeah, couldn’t give the smallest of ****s about whether there is beer at matches, but when the event was won by bribery and corruption, and now false promises, it just adds that little bit of extra stink to it all.
And no, I don’t respect their religious beliefs at all, but do their right to hold them of course. They have their own laws which need to be obeyed and would respect their right to establish their own laws were they not a repressive autocratic state.Last edited by Kenneth; 18-11-22, 03:26 PM.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years
