Got to admire the guy, breaks two of our players legs THEN tells us to **** off when we want to buy him.. still got to play west ham, don't we?? Hope Momo's fit.
"It was an extremely hard decision but I know it's the right one. West Ham moved heaven and earth to sign me while Liverpool gave me the impression that I might not even get a game if I went there."
This basically just says that the guy wouldn't be prepared to fight for a place in the team. Sure everybody wants to be playing every week, but you've still got to pay your dues at a club like Liverpool. No wonder Rafa told him where to stick it. He does not have the right mentality.
In which case we should be desperate to sign him. Pellegrino was genuinely one of the best signings Benitez has made. Obviously he was past his best as a player but his winning mentality and his influence with the zonal marking system was invaluable and we have benefited enormously.
Agree 100%
"The Liverpool offer arrived and I told the club to listen to that offer as that is the team I wanted to play for" - El Nino 03/07/07
I saw an interview with lucas on the tele and he was moaning that LFC didnt want him as much as West Ham. Apparently the Ham owner paid him a personal visit and outlined the clubs vision and ambitions blah, blah, blah, blah. Also Ham were contacting him every other hour saying how much they wanted him. LFC on the other hand basically told him to make up his mind. Poor vulnerable Lucas didnt feel wanted by LFC. So I guess the next time Rafa wants a mid-level, leg-breaking defender he will have to pay him a personal visit with the owners in tow as well! Ive often thought the large wages some players get disconnects them from reality, Lucas proves it. Who does he think he is?
"I watched the Champions League quarter-finals and the way they crushed Arsenal. Only the greatest and the best can play such a match.
The Future is Red!
Liverpool supremo Rick Parry admits that fans will be "bemused" by Lucas Neill's decision to snub Anfield and move to relegation-threatened West Ham.
Neill moved to Upton Park for what is believed to be a £50,000-a-week wage packet, £15,000 a week more than he was offered by Liverpool.
The Australian claims he moved not for the money but because he felt West Ham really wanted him while Liverpool were not committed in their approach, and he never had the chance to talk to the main men at Anfield, including boss Rafael Benitez.
Now chief executive Parry has entered the argument, and said in a LFC Magazine article: "The decision by Lucas Neill not to accept our terms after we agreed a fee with Blackburn will bemuse many fans.
"Players make their decisions and while you are sometimes surprised, you have to move on to the next one."
Parry added: "Neill had the choice between Liverpool and West Ham, we were offering him the opportunity of Champions League football.
"What we want are players with an instinctive desire to play for Liverpool. We want people with a real passion to come here and help us win trophies.
"Clearly, there will always be a chance for players to earn well if they do well."
Neill claimed he was a Liverpool fan as a boy but felt the club were not even sure they would play him regularly.
Parry said: "At the end of the day it is up to the individual to decide what is best for his career.
"From our side, we never want to be in a position where someone is only coming here for the money. A player has to be driven by something more than that.
"Because of the stature, history and ambition of Liverpool, there should be no need for us to sell the merits of this club.
"It's Neill's decision and it's his future. It has happened before and it will happen again."
Neill is likely to make his Barclays Premiership debut for West Ham next Tuesday at Upton Park - against Liverpool.
Rafael Benitez has told liverpoolfc.tv of his surprise to read comments suggesting he hadn't spoken to Lucas Neill when attempting to sign the player from Blackburn Rovers.
Neill, who completed his switch to Upton Park earlier this week, alleged that Liverpool hadn't made him feel truly wanted and that Benitez had not actually talked to him.
"He knows that isn’t true," claimed Rafa. "His comments were a surprise because when I spoke to him he was telling me different things. At the end of the day, if he didn’t have enough passion to come here then maybe it’s better for us."
"In fact I’m going to make a promise which will be welcomed by many. If there’s no finance secured by the opening day of the season, I’m going to hang up my keyboard and close KOPTALK down." - Duncan Oldham, Expert Conman. March 29th 2006
