Seriously,i was sick of Cisse being caught offside or blasting straight at the keeper every time he got the ball.Martens looks a lot better than Cisse(And our strikers) and scores from all over the pitch,i`d imagine a majority of fans would rather see Martens join us than see Cisse come back.

I would engage in this discussion again, but honestly I have spent the past two pages of this thread arguing the same point, so I can't really be bothered to do it again.
In my opinion, all the weaknesses Cisse has in his game, Martins has them too, I guess it's just a case of you who think is the worst culprit of it. In my opinion it's Martins.
Admittedly I watched him more for Inter than Newcastle, and he does seem to be more suited to them prem, but not much more than Cisse imo. And he gets caught offside an awful lot too.

I think buying a striker for us will be one of the clearest signs of our ownership's ambition and intent. This is a crucial decision and one that is probably the most difficult to get right. Look no further than Shevchenko, an amazing scorer at Milan who looks a pale comparison to Drogba this year (who, admittedly, was crap last year and seems to have figured out the Premiereship; He and C. Ronaldo are my players of the year). If someone would have told me we could have Shevchenko last off-season, I would have done backflips to make it happen. Now, I wouldn't touch him. He just doesn't seem suited for the league.
The other consideration is the style of play that Rafa is introducing; Will we be able to bolster the wings? I love the idea of Ribery. In fact, I would take Cisse back as 4th choice if it would help us attract Ribery. I also like Alves, but his price has become ridiculous. Last I saw £18 million and linked to Chelsea (again). Either way, our ability to strengthen our wing play should impact which strikers we target.
Finally, we need a primary goal poaching, attacking the goal, head up, get in the box and score type of striker. That is not Kuyt, who seems to be more of a workhorse set-up man and set-piece poacher than an out and out attacker. Crouch is a target man and tracks back well, but you never see him with the ball on his feet, attacking. Bellamy is able to attack with the ball at his feet, but too often attacks from the wings; None of our strikers use the middle of the pitch to devastating effect at all. Everything is coming through the right and left channels, overlapping with Riise and Pennant and Finnan. So often crosses are whipped in and Kuyt or Crouch coming in just behind the ball, because they were up the pitch, linking play and checking their runs against off-side traps? If we had Cisse or Baros back in those roles (I see them as interchangable), we'd either be offside ro they'd run with their head down up the right wing, cut inside and either put the ball in the stands or botch it out of play.
In other words, we don't have and haven't had what I consider to be an out and out world class striker since Michael Owen. Daniel Agger has a more impressive scoring rate outside of the box than our current batch and Gerrard wins more penalties than the strikers combined. We need to take all of these things into consideration and bring in a goal scorer. I don't want 12 goal scorers from other teams in the Premiereship, and we don't need a walk down memory lane with talent who couldn't get the job done the first go around. We need to find a world class talent who can finish, who compliments Kuyt and Crouch, and who can attack opposing defenses, be creative and have control near the area, and is a deadly finisher who would be a proud teammate and who understood the history and the need to reassert our dominance.
In my opinion, that person is David Villa.

i'll give you one thing for starters that martins is better at than cisse, his finish, cisse is one of the more rubbish finishers i have seen, one one one i don't think i've seen it worse, it's like he just closes his eyes and blasts it anywhere. martins at least has half a football brain and occasionlay can finish the odd ball properly...
