Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Fantastic news. It was always going to get sorted, just a matter of when. Glad they've pulled through, can't wait!

                    agree 100% with this
the only matches we will sell out are the derby, mancs, arse & chavs, maybe the barcodes + a couple of CL games if we get big teams, the rest it will be around 35,000 as usual.

It's difficult for most people to accept that we simply can't fill a abigger stadia, but we can't. Simple.

We don't have the commercial attractiveness of United or the London clubs, so extra revenue in terms of box seats and all that is less too.

yes i refuse to accept it IF we move and IF we sign a deal with a big commercial partner we can be easily as attractive as united. United have become attractive with the right marketing in place......we could always do the same.

errrrrrrr actually no!!!! now I think about it. I just dont want us to get left behind Like it or not a quarter of clubs in the premiership are about to be owned by Foreign Investment. I dont want that, but if we sorted our marketing out, created different revenue streams, made more money on the gate......we could keep the way we are .

I think over time we could fill it, but that will probably depend on success.

The mancs have managed to become a success because of their title winning achievements in the 90's, and that is probably the only way we'll be able to fill a new stadium regularly in the future if we become a successful club on the pitch in the years ahead. Challenging regularly for the league, with the odd success, and winning cup competitions is the way we'll do it, in my opinion, as success breads success and thus brings more people through the gates.

The mancs have been doing it for a good ten to fifteen years now, and even before then they had good attendances when they were 'just another' club with the odd success here and there. We'd have no trouble in filling a 60,000 stadium for a chunk of our games but I can't see us filling it regularly without continued success in the coming years. That is my opinion.

These days we rely a lot on the same people to attend midweek and weekend games, and a lot of individuals can't go to more than one game a week at most for one reason or another (be it for financial reasons or other commitments). Continued success will get 'new people' wanting to get through the gates thus giving us more attendances regularly, and without the league titles and regular cup successes we'll probably continue to have around the 40,000 mark for our games.

Saying that, no-one really knows what effect a new stadium will have on fans, and the option of a ticket more often might bring others to games more regularly - like me possibly. I haven't been to Anfield since Ged's return match against Roma a good few years ago, but have tried to get tickets a fair few times since but without success. If I managed to get tickets for games more often then I'm sure I'd like to attend more games in future (once I get the bug back again then I'm sure it'll make me go to games more often again).

Rafa's bringing success back to the club already and if he continues to do so, whilst bringing back 'the big one', then we'll most definitely be able to fill the new stadium for every match.

That's my point. We can compete and be succesful without selling out, either to commercialism or a foreign investor.
