We were crying out for Pennant hugging the touchline. No width whatsoever with the full backs scared to push on because the wide men had gone orienteering inside.
I'm not going to slag Benayoun off but he doesn't make a winger for me (I think Red Al made the same point pre-season). Leto on the other side was worse in fact but I'm not sure Babel would have fared any better in that formation.
Momo was ****ing awful - he was even playing the attacking midfield role in the first half with Gerrard as the holding player, which was absolutely ridiculous. Christ - he should never play with Gerrard again in the middle - the combo is like oil and water.
Sami's distribution was as per normal. Poor. Even Carra was below par tonight.
Whatever anyone says, we are missing the Hansen-like play of Agger and Alonso's composure, passing and vision in the middle.
A bad managerial pick tonight from Rafa. I thin the UEFA cup beckons after that.
speaking of which, wheres the final this year

Good observation that mateOriginally posted by TartanTerror View PostWhile I agree with other posters stating that we miss the distribution that Alonso and Agger supply, I question how much more effective we would have been with them in the squad. The lack of touch on display from the entire team bothered me more than anything. Good passes mean squat when the receiving player will fail to control it.

The only bright spot tonight is that after the way the club treated us with ticket allocations last year, I've decided to not attend the European games this season, considering how inconsequential the club views my support.
So I watched it on the telly this time. And saved 30 odd quid.
And didn't get rained on.
And the rain got so torrential that Sky went off for a couple of minutes, which was the best view I had of the entire game.
