There's alot of emerging themes throughout this thread. Most worrying and most accurate IMO are the comparisons between Rafa and Houllier.

I've been saying this for a long time but both are fundamentally negative managers who think you can win games by trying not to lose them. It's not a coincidence that we're so miserly in defence whilst at the same time looking blunt and lumpen when trying to attack. Any half decent well organised team can set out their stall against us and keep us to 0-0 all too easily, the last few weeks have shown that. And the same teams that frustrate us so easily will have their arses handed to them when they play scum at OT or Arsenal at Emirates.

Think about that for a minute. Because that's the difference between us and being a real contender that plays genuine football to impose themselves against weaker opponents (instead of worrying about keeping them scoreless). There's simply no reason to have any confidence in us as an out and out footballing team - our best bet under Rafa has always been and always will be smothering the other team and then hopefully - hopefully -squeezing a goal out of somewhere.

Tonight's result has been on the cards a long time, in fact, since Pako left. Whatever he brought he has definitely brought it with him when he left and on Irish TV, pundit opinion tonight was that all doesn't seem well in the 'Pool dressing room. I'm definitely very worried. Rafa's scientific, forensic and negative approach to football was obviously counterbalanced by Pako to some degree and it's everthing seems even staler and more uninspired since he left.

It's a great rabble rouser to think we'll "do Spurs over" at the weekend but why should we? We've been cack for weeks, I see no reason to believe we won't be cack next weekend. Rafa won't change.

Too many echoes of GH in our tactics and performances and the way we seem to have bottomed out at precisely the time we expected to kick on.

Rafa cried long enough about not having money and frankly what he has done since getting it has been shocking. The football we play is an insult to the traditions of the club and what kills me most is that the trophies we've won while playing this way have blinded us to that and made us ignore the horrible football that have somehow produced a few successes along the way.

Call me knee-jerk, whatever, but this has been coming and it looks already that this season's hopes are under a stay of execution. If we continue to play like this, and I see no reason to believe Rafa can somehow flick a switch from the boring, negative, lumpen stuff he loves, like GH, then this season and all our great hopes could be ****ed already.

Because simply paul, and to be honest, I've had enough 'spats' with you, or put it this way, I don't mind them, they're good...there's too many ****s on here who get uptight about any and every ****ing thing about this club and I'm glad they've got some proper cannonfodder they can have a decent 'We're ****, Rafa's a **** and so ARE YOU' wank about.

You ****ing know it! You've defended Rafa to the hilt and so have I, we all have disagreements on what's going on, fair enough, but it's pathetic, internet 'wars' and arguments are pathetic and I'm glad I'm above all that, THAT's the reason I'm revelling in it, because there's so many ****s out there, for them this whole EST thing or whatever is the be all and end all. And quite frankly, for me, it's not. So we lost. Big deal. We've ****ing won all the time (in Europe), it was inevitable we were going to get 'stuffed' (it wasn't really a stuffing worthy of a Turkey) at some point. And I knew and I STILL (would you believe it or not) haven't read any of the opinions on the game.


The reason I only watched the last 15 is because I was downstairs entertaining the new housemate, having a laugh with the girls and generally not giving two ****s about a run-of-the-mill European group game. I was more concerned about our new little cat Twinkle trying to attack LaFonda, the old-skool bunny-rabbit.

Sometimes, it ain't the be all and end all (watching a footie match). I dunno, it's the first time in years I can remember not giving a toss, but tonight (with the help of Mister Gin and Colonel JimBo) I really couldn't give less a ****.

Thing is, because I know and you know and many others will ****ing know, this result will drag on all the way to the weekend, it'll be overanalysed to **** and I can't be arsed with it anymore (at least not this week). Enough people will make it out to be the ****ing end of our European campaign, the ****ing league title was lost when we drew to Portsmouth and I'm just not having it. Some people, like Shaggy for instance (can't remember when or why, but I remember that), just don't bother logging on here for a few days after a 'shocking' performance, because there's just too much wankatude going on, and I don't blame 'em.

I'm actually becoming indifferent to the internet support. It's too analytical (by ****wits who have no idea) and it's too negative. I'd rather just watch the match, deal with it on my own terms (for the evening) and have forgotten about the result by the next morning. Life's too short, football (in universal terms) is ****ing zilch and whatever keeps me happy keeps me happy.

There is no excuse for not beating Spurs at the weekend. None whatsoever.

Surprisingly our home form hasn't been sh*t hot like it usually is. Mugged by Chavs (no fault of ours). Held by Brum and now a loss in the CL. We really need to **** Spurs.

It's only a bad patch guys. Let's try to be positive. We've been saying since the beginning that winning the league is our priority. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise going out (which we're not yet) as regards to that and could be a turning point for Rafa in terms of keeping his best players (the core of the team) on the pitch most of the times. It's only our first loss ... It's been coming yes, but now we've touched the bottom, the only way must be up.

Its ok to lose, I can accept that. What I cannot accept is how we played. No passion, no desire, nothing. We couldn't even keep possession. We only played for 4 minutes yesterday. We did not press or harry the opposition, it was all in all a piss poor performance. I really hope that we turn up for Spurs on Sunday.

This place is mental after results such as last night and if you offer a balanced view and don't bash the players, then you're vilified. There's no rational debate.

I want to see Babel up front with Torres or certainly on the left.

Voronin when he came on showed he at least had a first touch unlike Crouch who was pitiful. Most definitely Crouchy is 4th choice and I would not even have him on the bench for a while.

It was Babel that said that Rafa has only told him what to do when defending, he has given him no advice about attacking. I can only presume that this is the same with all of the players.

I love the way (well I hate it actually) that fredo thinks he can psychoanalyse people over the internet. I haven't read one post on this thread or the match thread which says, directly or indirectly, LFC is the most important thing in life.
No-one has said that, it's fredo making it up. Everyone has things which are more important to them than LFC and no-one is daft enough to seriously think otherwise.
The botom line is, for most people, football is something they are very passionate about, it always has been and it always will be. When those passions are inflammed, positively or negatively, you are going to want to express that. I see no harm in doing it via a keyboard as opposed to the old fashioned way of drinking yourself into oblivion and causing some kind of public disorder or worse.
