The botom line is, for most people, football is something they are very passionate about, it always has been and it always will be. When those passions are inflammed, positively or negatively, you are going to want to express that. I see no harm in doing it via a keyboard as opposed to the old fashioned way of drinking yourself into oblivion and causing some kind of public disorder or worse.

What does he expect in the post match reaction thread? People to come on and say "Bad result, but what about those monks in Burma?" ? That's what the library is for.Originally posted by Gordon Brown

No, it's just that you (and others) posted bollocks (Hyppia thread) based on a poor result. That's rash and it's my opinion. Respect mine and I'll respect yours. We were having a discussion and you started to either take the piss or make a comment like you've done above. When you're trying to have a sensible discussion that's irritating.Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostWhat does he expect in the post match reaction thread? I know full well that there are gonna be people frustrated but is it OK for people to abuse players, like the booing which occured last night ? I don't think so. Am I talking bollocks by saying that ?

Well you can have an opnion and I'll respect it but you're not expressing things as opinions, your expressing them as a matter of fact. Like people "posting bollocks", that's an opinion but you've stated it as fact. Like "people need to realise that there are more important things in life than football", that's an assumption you've made and a judgement you've made on people with no real justification for doing so. If you can justify it then maybe I'll respect it.Originally posted by fredo View PostNo, it's just that you (and others) posted bollocks (Hyppia thread) based on a poor result. And do you know the definitions of "rash" and "reaction"? This is the post match "reaction" thread
AS for fans booing (? abusing? ) the players. Well if you pay good money (34 quid) to watch that tripe served up then you have the right to express your anger in any legal way possible. It's not what I'd do, but I don't have a problem with those who do, I didn't pay my money for last night and they did, it's their choice. Part of the job for the players.Last edited by Red Chilli; 04-10-07, 11:59 AM.Originally posted by Gordon Brown

That's my style and I've realized that I've ruffled a few feathers with it. I don't know if I sound condescending but that's far from what I am in reality. It's just the way I am.Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostWell you can have an opnion and I'll respect it but you're not expressing things as opinions, your expressing them as a matter of fact. Well, it's a fact that people have been spouting **** in this thread. Some even, couldn't even take part in the discussion but chose to post snarky remarks instead. What's the point ?

People should be smart enough to know that players are no machines and that a performance such as that will arrive from time to time. If they can't accept losing 24 quid (the risk), then they should play FM or do something else.
How many times have this team performed like that ? With Rafa in charge, it's been the first time (if you don't take into account Porto away) we've witnessed such a poor performance. In 3 years, we've been fairly consisten isn't it ?
So, I still believe the booing (while understandable) was a bit OTT. We should respect the players.

Porto won.
Play the Man of the Match game in the sticky thread!

It does sound incredibly patronising.Originally posted by fredo View PostThat's my style and I've realized that I've ruffled a few feathers with it. I don't know if I sound condescending but that's far from what I am in reality. It's just the way I am.
I don't know, maybe to lighten the mood and it's misinterpreted? But I don't know.Well, it's a fact that people have been spouting **** in this thread. Some even, couldn't even take part in the discussion but chose to post snarky remarks instead. What's the point ?Originally posted by Gordon Brown

Well you can respect the players, that's fair enough. But the problem is, these days players are paid a king's ransome to kick a bag of air about a couple of times a week. Most, but by no means all, the fans are stuck in back-breaking, uninspiring, mortgage-serving jobs and are paid enough to get by on. Going to the match is an expensive luxury for a lot of fans and I think 34 quid is a lot of money.
IF the fan, sacrifices money and quality time to go and watch these multi-millionaires kick a bag of air about, I think the least they can expect is 100% effort. There wasn't 100% effort out there last night by any player IMO and therefore the boos were justified. As I say, it's not what I'd do in that situation but I respect another person's right to do it.Originally posted by Gordon Brown

I love r benitez, and he has some incredible qualities but the odd flaw too!
His idea of squad rotation is excellent, fantastic, to have a bigger squad than most, to keep them all happy, to have the fittest team in the business end of the season, will definitely give you a better chance of success, no doubt. It is a managers dream.
I believe it is possible. But I believe that Rafa is making this harder to achieve than it actually is.
Rafa does one of two things continuosly imho. He either underestimates the opposition, or he is overconfident in his own team. He did both yesterday.
In order to make changes, to replace experienced confident pros, with unproven unconfident players, the team has to have a backbone, has to be playing at a certain level, and has to be good enough to soak up to 3/4/5 changes.
We have an excellent squad, no doubt, apart from being shy a centre half. If the team has 6 or 8 good results in a row (which we often achieve), and has used a backbone in this, then I believe it is more than possible to make 3/4/5 changes in the starting line up, without taking away from the backbone. And giving three substitute appearances to regulars/non regulars, or whoever, pretty soon everyone would be a regular without drastically distressing the confidence of the unit.
Also circumstances have to be right...ie. not away to manure, or home in the champions league when we have had a poor opening game 2 weeks prior.
But all to often the backbone is altered by more than 1 switch, which I think is madness. Over the last 2 years, the chavs have had an excellent back bone, and we have seen the results of breaking the cech terry carvalho lampard drogba chain.
As for last nights players.. sami is too slow..carra isn’t setting the world alight….fabio is ordinary although back from a lay off….sissoko is annoyingly wasteful….wrong game for leto…gerrard is muck in midfield without xabi or mascha doing the work, giving him uncomplicated easy ball so he can do his deadliest work (which momo wont give him)… and crouch is a confidence player, and only scores when getting a run in the team, as he did when rafa showed faith in him when he arrived first(scoring eventually and then getting a few more).
I honestly think it can work, but give us a backbone rafa!!Referee Lubos Michel said: “If my assistant referee had not signalled a goal, I would have given a penalty, and sent off goalkeeper Petr Cech.”
