I said I'd seen "90 minutes today for a start...". I've seen three full 90s for Sunderland this season, and saw some of him when on-loan at Sheff Wednesday a year or so ago.

Not much, granted, but nothing I've seen so far suggests he's better than Crouch or anything like as good as Drogba.

This season he's looked a good player, no doubt, but he's got loooooooooooads more to do IMO before he's mentioned as a possible Liverpool striker.
Finally someone talking sense. Would you say his touch and technique was better then Voronin´s. I´m just trying to see where you rate his technical ability.

Mind you, who the hell would've picked Crouchie out as a possible Liverpool striker when he was at Southampton.
I'm totally chilled mate, I wasn't having a go back! Just explaining how much (or little) I've seen of him.

Fair point about Crouch, although he showed more in that 2nd half of the season for Southampton than Jones has at this level, and of course he ruined us at their place when we couldn't handle him at all.

here's hoping Jones doesn't do the same sometime this season eh?

Personally, althopugh i havent really seen him much he looks a good player. However, it's way too early to judge, and cheers to Keane for giving him a trial like

Dunno mate, but he's a totally different sort of player to Voronin, obviously. Not really comparable despite both being strikers.

Don't get me wrong - Jones has potential and his performances in the Prem have surprised me, but as I say I think he has to do a lot more before we even consider him.

Although Redknapp is a rubbish pundit, I found it interesting when he said he would never, ever have thought Jones could play like this having played and trained alongside him at Southampton. Makes me wonder if he's one of these flash-in-the-pan strikers - like Michael Ricketts. Hard to imagine now, but Ricketts had a season in the Prem when he was virtually unplayable.

Sorry,My mistake,I was compairing Jones to Crouch.

                  Jones.
                  Early Career
He has represented his country at every level, and is considered a tremendous athlete. He could have chosen professional cricket or athletics careers but wanted to fulfill a long-standing dream of playing football in England.

Jones began his professional career with Joe Public FC in his native Trinidad, and moved to W Connection in 2002. He debuted with the Trinidad and Tobago national team on January 29, 2003 in a game against Finland.

                  Southampton
In July 2004 he signed by Southampton but went out on loan to Football League One club Sheffield Wednesday during December 2004 and although it finished on January 15, 2005, he quickly become a fan favourite with 7 goals in 7 games for the Owls. Following the successful loan spell, Wednesday manager Paul Sturrock failed in his attempts to sign Jones permanently, offering only half of Southampton's original fund to bring him to the South Coast. On his return to Southampton, Jones was involved in games against Liverpool and local rivals Portsmouth.

Following Southampton's relegation from the Premiership in May 2005 a number of competing forwards were sold and Jones started season 2005-06 as a key member of the squad with the responsibility for scoring the goals to make the Saints contenders for a return to the top flight. During a transitional period for Southampton, managerial change and boardroom unrest took its effect on the players. Having used 41 different players in the 2005-06 season (most were sold to cut costs) it was only towards the end that new manager George Burley began to develop a squad from those that remained.

In the 2006-07 season, Jones grabbed the attention when he scored a hat-trick against Anderlecht in the last game of pre-season and quickly became an established member of the strike-force. On 29 November he scored two goals against Birmingham City in a thrilling match which ended 4-3 to Southampton. On 26 December 2006, he received the first red card of his career for a push on Mark Hudson in the match against Crystal Palace[1], resulting in a 3-match suspension. He improved as the season went on and his strong, physical presence made him a handful for the Championship defences. He scored another brace against Southend United in a 4-1 win on the last day of the season to ensure a place in the play-offs. He was unfortunate to be injured for the play-off semi final defeat at Derby County, but finished the season with 16 goals to his credit.

On 11 May 2007, Southampton manager George Burley stated that "Kenwyne is another Didier Drogba in the making. As far as physical attributes, his strength and power in the air are second to none".[1]

Following on from news that Derby County wanted to sign Jones for around £5 million, Jones submitted a transfer request to Southampton on 24 August 2007 and went on "strike" until a move could be agreed, requesting not to be selected for the forthcoming league match against Stoke City.[2]

                  Sunderland
On 29 August it was confirmed that he had joined Sunderland in a deal valued at £6 million with Stern John moving to Southampton. [3][4] He made his debut for Sunderland on September 1 in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United, scoring his first goal in the 2-1 home win over Reading on September 15.

He has scored 4 in 8 for a bottom half team and is playing really well and doing allot for his team in the PL. So I´m not ready to dismiss him outright just because he has not played in the PL before.

I said this at the game today, sometimes you just have to show the money & i'm very happy to say we have hopefully got more than we paid for, some players have a bit of magic in their boots,he's one of them.
I don't think he's a clinical striker but he can make things happen all by himself,he's gifted and i like it lots.

i'm not bashing crouch...i like him and think he proved himself well last year but hasn't really been given a chance this year. there are a lot better strikers proving themselves in the premiership this year. i would have said he's in top 10.
