i'm not bashing crouch...i like him and think he proved himself well last year but hasn't really been given a chance this year. there are a lot better strikers proving themselves in the premiership this year. i would have said he's in top 10.

Imho he`s in the top 5 given his lack of opportunities.His performances have been top notch .

i'll admit i wasn't too keen on a partnership of crouch and torres. torres is a must start for most games and for a while i thought voronin was his ideal partner but crouch's performances recently make me think him and torres could work. right now rafa has to start crouch and torres but voronin has also been proving recently he could be class for us.

you think we should play crouch, torres and vornin all together at one time?
i reckon at home against a so called smaller team we should give it a try in a 4-3-3 formation (not with a 4-4-2 with voronin wide right as he has played sometimes this year) just to see how it goes.

i still rate kyut as a player and i beleive he will come good again but as of this moment his form suggests he needs a break and he would be my fourth choice striker just now.

I`ve noticed that when we are dominant we don`t have a back 4.
Finnan,Arbeloa,Aurelio or Riise become the 4th MF while one of our wingers become a forward.Resulting ing a 3-4-3 formation.?????

Crouch is a good player, but not good enough. The same goes for Voronin and Kuyt.

I know Crouch looks good very often, and really does a job for us. But his only attribute that is really top class is his ability to win the ball in the air. That is what Rafa bought him for.

And for me Jones scores almost as high on that front, and higher on almost any other. ( From what I have seen )
So we would be a better team IMHO with Jones instead of Crouch.

Crouch for me is a bit like Hyypia at the moment. He can do a job but we really need better to progress.

probably our best/dominant perfomance came with a 3 man defense when hyypia, carra and agger all played against newcastle (last year/2 years ago??) i would try that again with arbeloa pushing further forward on the right and having babel get a chance to play as a forward.

you think signing jones as a replacement for crouch is progress??
i'd call it a side step. you want to progress then you need to go out and buy another striker as good as torres. he's the benchmark for our new strikers just like gerard should be the benchmark for any new midfielders!

While I tend to agree with that I think that that is a bit to unrealistic. Torres and Gerrard are two of the best in the world.

My point is here that when you look at the players Wenger, Ferguson and since this summer Rafa sign, there is one thing they all have in common. They all have superior skill on the ball.
From watching Jones I think he has far more skill on the ball then people give him credit for.
Now if that is true and he has skill comparable to say, Benayoun, he could IMHO be a vast improvement over Crouch, based on that assumption and his vast physical superiority.

he might have more skill than people give him credit for but IMHO i reckon crouch has more skill, better touch, and better linking play with his teammates.
