If you look it this way then the one billion valuation isn't that much overpriced.
Exactly. Although it is overpriced but if he wants out he will negotiate down and take a small profit. Again though I would take this report lightly at this stage. EDIT: Even moreso reading that article.

he shouldn't be aiming to get a profilt.

its basically an aquistion he's made, decided it was a bad one, and wants out.

if he makes a profit on it, they must have bought it at a discount

Liverpool have distanced themselves from claims that American co-owner Tom Hicks is considering selling his stake in the Anfield club.

Sources close to the millionaire say he was made aware of speculation growing about a rift with co-owner George Gillett, and suggestions that he would be selling up, several days ago.

It is believed that in conversations earlier this week Hicks was angered by the suggestions and denied them to key figures at Anfield.

Hicks and Gillett are believed to be on the brink of sealing finances to build their revamped £400million new stadium in Stanley Park.

In the current tough financial market that has taken them some time and they have found world banks reluctant to loan cash for such a major scheme.

And in the midst of this, the row with boss Rafael Benitez over transfer policy has also sprung up, with the prospect at one stage that the Spaniard's public insubordination could cost him his job.

But in recent days that conflict has been smoothed over, thanks largely to a lengthy meeting between Parry and Benitez ahead of Wednesday's 4-1 Champions League win over Porto.

It was around this time, it is understood, that Hicks made it clear that speculation about him selling up was not true.

Well the club seem to have been quick off the mark to dampen speculation that Hicks wants to sell:-

Why haven't they been so quick to end speculation surrounding Rafa's job? I'm beginning to seriously distrust these Americans now, and I just wonder if it wouldn't be better for the club if they sell up to people who won't make false promises and try to pull the wool over our eyes.

Just been to a dinner with Balague and Dermot Gallagher in Maghull.
Believe what you will but Guillem admitted the following in a Q and A session-

*The Americans are looking to get rid of Liverpool as quick as they can
                      * Rafa has a number 2 from within the club already lined up, it will not be Sammy Lee
*We signed Torres because we could afford Villa or Etoo, although he does think Torres is a great player
*Garcia left because he didin't want his son to be brought up in England
*He thinks we will win the league

Anyone who went to this tonight would add weight to my claims but I know what i heard. What you believe depends on your opinion of Balague

It will be interesting to see what if anything happens, but if something is to happen it needs to be soon as there are many issues to resolve.

If Hicks is looking to sell then his valuation of the club seems way over the odds, the Hicks and Gillette partnership paid around £200-300m for the club less than a year ago, yes they've designed a new ground which is not built or paid for yet are we really expected to believe the club is now worth so much more?

Also if Hicks is to sell and Gillette wants to stay we need to find someone who is prepared to work with Gillette, also a new owner may have different plans for a new stadium, delaying that further!

I thought I read it in a newspaper ages ago even before the link with DIC or the Americans But maybe I should start buying a better quality newspaper then if that's where they get their info from

                            In Rafa I Trust

Dont see Hicks being able to sell his share easily - mainly because the dollar is weak (making US buyers relucant), plus with the current posssible imminent recession and banks nervousness with giving out loans - I think he`ll find it difficult to find a viable buyer

Plus why arrange a loan on a stadium that you wont be around to see, because you wont be the owner then?

This sounds like a story with smoke with no fire, however the general behaviour around Anfield the last few weeks has been bizarre (especially how well we are doing) so I guess anything could happen. And if you were being a conspiracy therorist - Rafa askes for money - You (Hicks) make a public blunt statement - Fans turn on you - Automatic "reason" for leaving the club

Still think its very unlikely though
                              We need better attacking players!

                              Torres aint enough

                              Rafas number #1 fan
