It all down boils to the Premiership clubs being greedy.Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostWith all the "stupid money" being wasted in the top tier of English football it's sad that the bigger clubs can't see that the game will suffer ultimately if teams go out of existence.
What about the history of the game? Of course it's not LFC's responsibility to give Luton handouts, but I'm very surprised by this news.
There should be money from Sky filtering down the leagues, it's a joke the amount of money in the premiership
I remember reading an article a very long time ago, that basically said when the Premiership was first being set up 4 top flight clubs executives, including one from LFC went over to the US to model it on their NFL set up. They did pretty much follow their set up, but neglected a main point, that of filtering the tv rights money down the leagues to ensure the sport & competition stays healthy long term.

Luton made a big thing to the players that if they got to the 3rd round they would be paid, they went out and won and got a weeks wages before christmas. So just before this game the manager makes a big deal in all the papers about LFC not giving up their share to help support the club and pay the players. Does this not strike anyone as the manager trying to incentivise the players without telling them directly. They will all read the papers and feel that they want/need to beat us to punish LFC. Or do people think I am off the mark here?

"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.
"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

It crossed my mind. Also it might fire up the home support.Originally posted by sonsofthedesert View PostLuton made a big thing to the players that if they got to the 3rd round they would be paid, they went out and won and got a weeks wages before christmas. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

may well inspire them, but playing againt a team like liverpool in a home FA cup game should be enough. they cant get up for that game then they need a good kick up the arseOriginally posted by sonsofthedesert View PostDo you not think this could be the reason the manager made a big deal about it in the press but even his own club wont confirm it.

I'm with FFF it seems to me to go against the spirit of having a football community and I think it is a shame we can't give at least a share of the proceeds to Luton. I seem to remember people in the past complaining that Chelsea weren't making similar gestures and this was a sign they were greedy and the symbol of all that was wrong with modern football. It's hard to see it any other way now tbh. (IIRC the Scarborough donation came after a lot of bad publicity for not doing something).
Maybe the supporters could do something. The supporters of Sunderland have on several occasions collected for teams with financial trouble (and at times actually taken hundreds of fans to teams grounds to watch) - I can say this has happend for both Cambridge United and York for certain.
I guess another gesture the club could make would be to loan them some young players and pay their wages. That way everyone would benefit.

You are right about the finances but very very wrong about the spirit of lower league football (and indeed the composition of most of the sides). Clubs of all sizes are often an important part of the community and most lower league teams are set up to try and win rather than to develop future talent. In some way the game in this country suffers for that but on the other hand many people go and watch exciting, hard fought games every week all over the country.Originally posted by AFII View Post
The lower league clubs are now nothing more than feeder clubs until they get a rich owner. They can't really put any high prices on their young talented players either because the rich clubs know that they need the money and use that to get the price down."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

£100,000 is not a trifling amount, even for a club like LFC, but every time I think of it and consider the arguments against giving it I keep being drawn back to the fact that it's probably less than we pay out in wages to Stevie G every week..
