Understand what you're saying, but do you know what I'd have liked to have seen? For him to come out and slaughter the players for the first half, not name specific players just the whole team, "we were rubbish and we all know it wasn't good enough". He'd get a lot more respect from the fans, and I suspect the players for doing that, and it might get some players to buck their ideas up, some of them didn't look arsed yesterday.Originally posted by redblood View PostThe interview I saw with him he said we played better in the 2nd half which was true I don't expect him to come out and say we were ****e in the first but he was specific in talking about the 2nd half perfomance.Last edited by CharlieMansonsSquint; 13-01-08, 03:34 PM.I hate Polanski

I'd agree to some extent Niall but there is enough negativity surrounding the team in the public domain and you just know that he ****ed them out of it anyway.Originally posted by CharlieMansonsSquint View PostUnderstand what you're saying, but do you what I''d have liked to have seen? The players should be coming out to take some of the blame for yesterday not leaving it all on Rafa.
The fact that Rafa made a rare change at half time would suggest how pissed off he was over the ****e that was produced.
TBH mate I think he'll pull us back out this slump but we need to protect him and the players from the sensationalist bull**** that the press are on and that some of our 'fans' not 'supporters' are only to happy/stupid/naive to lap up.
I'll accept reasoned argument from anyone but some people continue to have an agenda regarding certain people at the club Rafa/Kuyt/Riise etc and regardless of the things they do right they will only ever mention what's wrong.

Spot on. Lack of cash may explain why we cannot win the league, but it doesn't explain why we are so far off the pace.Originally posted by Sir Bob View PostYou can't keep blaming a lack of cash. Man C, Villa, EFC are right on our tail and they've spent miles less than us in recent years.
If lack of cash is the reason we are behind Man Utd, then why couldn't we beat any of Boro, Reading, Luton, Man City, Portsmouth, Porto or Besiktas (away), or Birmingham, Wigan, Tottenham or Marseille (at home),
Our away record in the league is better than our home record, and we have at least twice beaten the same teams away that we have failed to beat at home.
If cash is the main factor in success, then why are Everton, Citeh and Villa right behind us, and why we are closer in points to Portsmouth or West Ham than Man Utd or Arsenal (acknowledging that the season is unfinished)?
Also, we have lost only twice in the league, conceding far fewer goals than Everton, Villa or Citeh (just 14), but also winning fewer games than any of them, which suggest that we are very sound defensively and not so good at scoring.
I think a more significant factor than cash is that we simply can't break well organised teams down, and Rafa doesn't know what to do about it. So we become disjointed, aimless and resort to punting, relying on Torres' spectacular individual skill rather than passing, moving and teamwork.
GH had a defensive mentality that led him to embrace hoofing, counterattacking football and he deliberately bought the players to suit. It was only a matter of time before he was found out, and his inability to change his philosophy led to catastrophic failure.
With Rafa the commonly resorted to hoofing is more disturbing, because he ought to know better, and he has bought technically more gifted players (with a couple of notable exceptions). I think his conservatism is a major factor in our inability to convert these draw into wins: should we really be bringing on Mascherano to defend a lead at Luton?
IMO, it is becoming a bit embarrassing to hear him constantly blaming the funds when other, much poorer clubs are snapping at our heels in the league.Last edited by der_Fuchs; 13-01-08, 03:36 PM.Liverpool FC über alles.

However it seems that the decision was made before Xmas and that is not acceptable.
I've said before, regarding the takeover to many people were only to happy to sell our club to the highest bidder and that we should be careful what we wish for the same can be said for Rafa's situation.
How ridiculous would it be if Rafa got sacked by these pair and then they ****ed off I really hope people cop the **** on.

NO ! Don't make it easy for the ******s, any feed back the Americans get MUST for now be POSITIVE towards Rafa as far as we're concerned, It's a case of them coming out & extending his contract along with a simple statement saying ok we may need to tread a little water till the stadium is built as far as squad strengthening is concerned, by that i mean not many Torres like buys, but once the revenue from a larger ground comes in a good amount will be invested in the squad from then on, UNTILL THE TITLE IS WON & LONG AFTER. See simple.Originally posted by Marky19 View PostDon't but i'm sort of resigned to the fact that he won't be the Liverpool manager next season.

At the end of the day, we have no control over what happens to rafa, if it was down to me there would be no question, he has improved us beyond all recognition to the club when he took over. He needs until the end of his current contract at the very least to finish the project he has started. But what we CAN do as supporters is just that, SUPPORT. I am truly embarrassed for some of the pricks on here. They want it all and they want it now, if they dont get they get rid. Great, lets become ****in newcastle

I think this is a very valid point. For me, it's not Rafa's performance in the transfer market that is at question. I think he's done pretty well there.Originally posted by StevieG08 View PostI don't think it's a case of 'Doom Mongering', it's called looking at the realistic situation we find ourselves in.
Reina
Finnan
Carra
Hyypia
Arbeloa
Yossi
Mascher
Gerrard
Babel
Crouch
Torres
Should that team be on level points with Everton/Villa etc. Should that team of fought out a 1-1 draw with Luton, a team in administration with players who haven't been payed for two months. We can't just hide behind money spent just because we love Rafa.
Have the teams around us spent 18.5mil on Torres, do they have a player like Mascherano who is valued at 17mil at there disposal, do they have a player like Gerrard who is valued at 25-30mil(priceless!?!) or a hot Dutch striker who cost 11.5mil, not to mention the 10.5 mil on Alonso or 9.5mil on Kuyt etc. The simple fact is we should be doing much better, playing much more 'attractive' football than we are. Bottom line is the team is under performing and if Rafa isn't to blame then who is?
It's how he uses the squad he has.
I don't think its a title winning squad by a long chalk, but it's a much better squad than he had to cope with when he arrived, and I think it's capable of much better than it's delivering.
My concerns aren't to do with transfer policy but about his use of the players he has. As such I can agree with anyone defending his transfer policy, but that misses the point for me completely anyhow.

Not really because it only deals with transfer policy and transfer policy isn't something that particularly concerns me. He's done rather well in that regard in my view.Originally posted by thekop View PostTop top post mate

Again mate great points Rafa needs the time to finish this off and the backing of the 'fans' and owners to get it done.Originally posted by paulcooper4 View PostI know mate. Agree totally. Unfortunately, a hell of a lot of people sadly are so easily influenced by the media its ****in unreal.

Newcastle's next manager will be their 4th proper one since Rafa came to Liverpool. I think it is inaccurate to suggest that we're "doing a Newcastle" should Rafa be replaced - be it now or in the Summer.Originally posted by paulcooper4 View PostThey want it all and they want it now, if they dont get they get rid.
