Xabi hasnt been the same player cos he has been injured most of the season FFS! He needs a run to get his form back. We dont know he wants to leave at all.

Agger's been pretty **** this season too!

Barry is good player, but at the stage our squad is at, an uninspiring squaddie. What's he gonna add?

Can't disagree with anything you have said. Given that it took so long to tie him down last summer, indicates to me that he had serious thoughts about leaving. If his form doesn't pick up soon, I think he'll look to Spain as he will excel in that league.

Agree on Barry, although I don't think Rafa looks for inspiring players in the 2 of the 4231. He wants solid defensive players who can pass short and get forward on occasion. Barry can do that.

Rafa seems to think inspiring players are only required in the 3 & 1.

Don't know why, I asked the question in work and was told he wasn't really a serious target, then Tony B stuck this on the end of his Chelsea preview.

Meanwhile, despite speculation, Liverpool have not made any offers for either Aston Villa’s Gareth Barry or Schalke right back Rafinha.

The Reds do have an interest in Barry who could be available in the summer but Rafinha does not feature on Rafa Benitez’s hit list.

Xabi did take a while to sign his contract aye, but he did sing one for five years. That is over & above.

It's pretty obvious he talks ****.

Why is it Barry vs. Bentley? One is a winger and the other is a CM. Why are we selling Alonso to "raise money" when he's got a long term contract and DIC are going to buy the club and give Rafa an impressive transfer budget?

He's talking **** and he hasn't got a clue, or he's trying to help Rafa by making Chelsea pay more for Barry, which is where he'll go if he leaves.

Tony B has got most things right, so like you I will defer to him

Maybe we've had second thoughts after his recent performances and think Degen can do a decent job for free leaving the money to be spent elsewhere

                      Agree with this

Think he is a hack when he comes to transfer dealings regarding us - he usually "finishes off the sentence" when he is talking about us - kind of pretending to already know about info on us in the mass media

I dont think we`ll get Barry because unless the deal is done, this has leaked out into the media - therefore alerting Villa to offering good contract terms + increasing the fee.

Obviously, like Carrick two years ago, if the player wants to go, he`ll go.
                      We need better attacking players!

Oh yes, of course they do. Especialy in the really big games. Ask the Croatians.

Barry is just not the type of player to turn us into genuine contenders. CL 4th spot candidates, yes, but EPL winners? I don't think so.

As I stated on another thread, Barry is nowhere near as agood as Xabi and should be just scratched off any potential signing list. I would rather play SG more alongside Mascher and give guys like Spearing and Plessis more first team action.

Xabi won't be sold. Can't see it. He's Rafa's general on the pitch.

Looprevil you'll like the news today that our great wing signing could be Valencia of those relegation contenders Wigan. The others are at best squad players too

                            Will Rafa never learn?
