SWP was hardly so effective when given the chance at a big club though was he? he'd also cost much more than the £12m putative price for Kuyt. I think a much better case has to be made for selling a player who is part of an effective team unit at a big club than there are better players out there. Individual stats are to some degree irrelevant if the team does well which it has at the end of last season and the start of this with Kuyt as a key player.

I'm not against bringing in players to compete for his place but to sell a first choice player I really think we need to receive a huge offer. I don't see £12m buying us a player so much better that they demand that we fix what isn't broken.

Unnoticed? That's all he is noticed for. He's not noticed for anything else, other than an incredibly bad scoring record in the Premier League (which seems to go unnoticed). I can hardly forget his goals against City and Liege, but it's his contribution in all the other games he has played for us since he joined (ex Europe) that I canny recollect.

For a right sided midfielder his record is not too shabby.

11 goals last season and 3 in 11 already this season. I am sure there are many assists in there as well.

Well Ronaldos first 3 seasons he manages 6, 9 then 12 goals. Joe Cole has only ever managed to get over 11 goals in one season.
I really dont know what you expect a right winger to score, please tell how many you would expect before it wouldnt be a bit ****?

Something better than the 3 in 32 he got in the PL last season perhaps - or was that good enough for you? I want the PL this season simple as. If we can carry Kuyt and still get it great. I don't think we can. If he continues to perform as he has been so far (1 in 7 is better than 1 in 9 I guess) then you never know - but I am far from convinced.

talk about kuyt and hard work, never say die attitude and similar attributes and i agree with what you've said, but the stuff about link up play, creating space and playing a large part in our goals, well thats where it falls apart. i think babel could do them things at least as well as kuyt, and any other play under 12 million - garcia at half the price did all them things well.

I've developed a grudging respect for kuyt so i'm not getting at him and i hope he continues to improve this season.

Yup as long as he continues to play like he has been playing and doesnt revert back to how we was this time last year then I think he should have a good season ahead.

I don't think that this goal record in holland (83 in 122 for feyenoord) is something to be dismissed lightly, but he clearly hasnt shown that he could be that kind of player in a red shirt. I think its partially down to low confidence and form when moving to a new country for a bigger club, but I think rafa's tactics and the positions dirk's been asked to play have also detracted from his tally. In his first season he had a decent return when he was deployed as a striker, but he struggled for large part of last season with the loss of his father and being played out of position. He rebounded well last year in spring and has looked a different player since. I think lack of goal return in this time has been down to position that he's been asked to play as well as poor finishing. As someone said, I'm afraid of how his missed chances might cost us in matches and I agree, however in the last few matches his taken chances have given us maximum points. Now with torres out, if he is given a good run up front with keane, he might just give rafa a hard choice of whether to push him back to the flank when torres comes back. On form he probably should be playing up top instead of keane.

But I'm chuffed that he's really starting to deliver, bc there is no doubt that he truly loves the club. You can see his determination to do well for the club everytime he takes the pitch as he wears his heart on his sleeve. He's liverpool to the core and its awesome that he's now putting them in.
