Mate, i've been watching Lucas since his early days in the reserves. He didn't even stand out in the reserves. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. He's an average to good footballer at very best. At the moment, he's poor. And if he wants to get to the same level as the captain of Argentina, he's got a very long way to go.

I got to see plenty of reserve games what with having LFC TV and all...actually, come to think of it, i don't think Lucas played many reserve games at all, and was more or less straight into training with the first team.

I think there's been an improvement in Lucas in the past month or so.

Someone said earlier why should Lucas be in the team and Babel be on the bench when neither has "earned" a place in the starting line up, to answer that I would say we can afford to have Lucas in the team in his current role, he doesn't make huge mistakes and with the defence we have along with Super Masch there are players who can "clean up" if he does make an error.

With Babel if he makes a mistake it can lead to a wasted goal opportunity which can be the difference between 1 point and 3 points.

I think when Lucas was signed Rafa saw him as the long long (5-7 years) replacement for Gerrard, and he's been grooming him into that role. Whether Rafa still thinks Lucas is capable of doing that I don't know, because right now (even though I'm a fan of Lucas) I think there is a gulf as wide as the Atlantic in the influence Gerrard and Lucas have on the team.

You're right, I think you could probably count on one hand the number of times he played in the reserve team, that's why Lucas never stood out for the reserves....he never played!

Are you saying Rafa keeps playing a poor player and he's the only one who cant see it ?

Or do you think maybe he knows what he's doing.

someone in previous posts said that some players get WC when they are 27-28 yrs old. can Lucas be one of them?

Well i dont particularly rate Lucas, but it's unfair to single him out for criticism for the Stoke game, everyone was pretty poor.

He definitely should've scored with that header though. Absolutely woeful finish.

I have the same channel mate. He was pants. As was Leto for the reserves.

In the good games he has had he has been paired with Alonso.

Simple stat. Look it up if you like.

Mascherano and Lucas simply can not play together. I do not know why, nor do I care. All I want is for the two to not be paired together in future until they have sorted it out on the training pitch.

Weird, on my tv Lucas didn't really play reserve football, but Leto did and was constantly a stand-out performer on the left. I suggest you retune your tv.

I'd agree with that, the Lucas/Mascher midfield pairing has been unsuccessful so far this season. I think Alonso brings out the best in Lucas, takes some of the weight of his shoulders and allows him to play a more flowing game.
