Yes, I know. The point is though that it's a bad decision (by a reasonably objective standard) rather than a "ridiculous" one (subjective, with the caveat that choice of standards is subjective anyway). The latter is presumably rooted in the attitude that "it's not a decision I'd have made" and while I have a lot of sympathy for that view we need to accept that (a) we don't know the full reasons why it was made (so it may not actually have been ridiculous for other reasons) and (b) it's inevitable that some decisions won't work.

The perfectionist streak in these forums is pointless and a bit silly even though I fully understand it's expressed with the best of intentions.
    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

      Fair enough of course.

        Pretty self explanatory really.

people are right to have a go at lucas because he isnt anywhere near good enough to play for us. But that booing cannot take place on the pitch whilst that player is still playing for our club. We were crying out for xabi and masher yesterday but rafa thought otherwise and played lucas.

The truth is that when you look at the calibre of midfield player we have in gerrard, alonso and mascherano then lucas isnt of the same standard infact he's nowhere near any of those three.

if rafa wants to play him then so be it but you cant expect sub-standard players to be effective at this level on a consistent basis. Hence lucas' two decent performances in about 50.

We should cut our losses and let him leave. All managers buy good players who do **** all - fergie bought veron for nearly £30m, wenger bought jeffers and he did nothing, and we've had our fair share of under-achievers.

Lucas is one of those players. Time to move on.

I was at the game, I didn't hear anyone boo Lucas, they booed Raffa's subbing of Masha not Lucas even though he was ****

there was an instance well after the sub when lucas got pushed over very easily. there was clear sounds of booing then.

i wasn't there this week but where i sit, everytime lucas is played there is universal dismay that this boy is on the pitch for us. no-one boos him but not one person thinks he's good enough. the attitude towards lucas is very similar to the one i used to see towards smicer.

lucas should be sold asap. the money we get from lucas, pennant and yossi could easily go towards a quality attacking midfielder/playmaker that would both strengthen the squad and overnight increase our ability to break down teams that come just to defend.

It's clear the lad needs game time. Having watched the game I must say that I thought Masherano was just as poor as Lucas yesterday, but for Javier they are few and far between, whilst Lucas never does anything to justify his selection.

The main problem with Lucas is that he just seems to coast through games. He never seems to do anything bad, but likewise never anything good. When he plays he needs to have an impact, otherwise he is just standing still. Yesterday against a lightweight midfield was an ideal chance for him to get his foot on the ball or drive forward. I seen him get forward maybe a couple a times, but he should be doing that at least five times a game, especially when we are nil nil at home to Fulham.

As for the booing, that does not help. People can abuse all they like on the forums, but this should never happen at the game. Liverpool used to be famed and admired for their crowd. Mind, that was when we were winning.
                Forwards.......

What gets me is the fact that people are having a whinge about Lucas not being taken off, and wanted Maser to stay on the pitch.

Masher was playing just as badly (and offers us nothing when we are chasing a game). The wolves just wanted to find a scapegoat, and it looks like Lucas is it. Masher is a pure defensive midfielder....we needed a goal. Lucas can at least offer some threat.

He was pretty bad in the first half, i agree, but he was alot better in the second.....by that time the damage had been done with the wolves i guess. But keeping Masher on instead of Lucas wouldn't have made any difference.

Disgrace to the club if you ask me and the fans in question need there heads sorted. Seriously what good do they think its going to do? It will just ruin the lads confidence even more and play on the other players minds as well. Needs stamped out now!

Agree, from what I could see on a dodgy stream, Mascher didn`t do much.
Having said that Lucas was a disappoitment. The games wasn`t very fast, but it still seemed to be too fast for him, espesially in the first half.
He needs games, but he needs to play him with Gerrard or Alonso (or both). That way we still have players that makes the game tick while Lucas gets into things.

Support all of our players every minute on the pitch week in week out. Boooing our own players is just not on.

                            That should never happen.

Give them support and they will play better. Boooo them and you show that you want us to lose the game.

The supporters that boooo can go on and support Everton instead.

                            Lucas need our support.

Masch played a **** game, Rafa was right to take him off. Most knowledgeable fans in the world my ass.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
