I don't blame anyone if they have a go at the players after the game. Some of them deserves it but during the games it's a different matter.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I've slowly started to turn on lucas, were last year i'd defend him and say he has ability, just give him time to settle etc, now i'm running out of arguements to back him up.

He may well improve and he may well be one for the future and I really hope he does step it up a level or 5 but.................at the moment i just don't know what he brings to the side (other than being an average squad player) - what is he, what is his role when he plays, what is he trying to achieve -

he is obv not a defensive/combatitive midfielder who will charge around and 110mph putting tackles in, he defo isn't a 'box to box' midfielder which is what he has been labelled by some cause he just doesn't get box to box and doesn't seem to have the engine or explosive speed/power to make any really impact getting box to box. And he certainly isn't an attacking or creative midfielder cause he doesn't create anything other than problems. He doesn't find space and play a killer ball, or he doesn't make runs that pull defenders apart making space for the strikers or midfielders, he certainly doesn't look like scoring. He is just an average player at the moment - he sits in the middle of the park and tries to win the ball and keep possesion.

I really hope the lad does step up but at the moment there isn't any promising signs

at times he looks like a player not playing his natural game as if he's playing to orders.

its simple he's either crap or he's being stiffled. I think its the former.

I think that for Lucas as for a couple of our other players (Babel, Plessis and to a degree Penannt, although the latter no longer has the time to correct it) is that he lacks the mental side to his game, the presence and personality to impose themselves on a game. I really think that Lucas in particular has the talent to make it but at the minute he seems to be struggling in the ways that Morientes did in that he looks out of his comfort zone and so when he does good things they don't build to form confidence and improved form.

I really think that Babel, Lucas and Plessis all need more game time. The trouble is we need to maintain squad strength and the quality of our team and so it is hard to give them time on the pitch in which they can afford to take risks and make the mistakes that will allow them to grow as players.

I still think that the best analogy for Lucas is Gilberto Silva at Arsenal for year or so their supporters wondered what he did and only about half way through the 'invinvilbles' season anyone started to appreciate the continuity play he provided. I think he is struggling at times because he is ill suited to the setup of the team at the minute. I think the combination of him and Mascherano in the middle with an off form Keane in front means he doesn't have the sort of options that he would thrive on. Alonso suffered from problems last year of a similar ilk. The difference being that he has always looked to have the personality to overcome poor form and knew he could perform in the PL. I still think that Alonso's lack of mobility costs us at times but in the form he has had this season his other qualities more than compensate. I see Lucas as potentially giving us that added mobility but he has to learn to express himself and to be confident in what he is doing. Sometimes the confidence of the passer transmits to the potential targets - all of our players know at the minute that if they make the run Xabi will make the pass so make more runs, that doesn't happen for Lucas.

You saved me typing that lot out. Agree totally, as much as it hurts to say as I had high hopes for the lad.

A couple of times on Saturday he found the space to reciev the ball, but then it looked he started thinking and he moved on to a different, worse, position.
To me it looked like he positioned himself by instinct, then suddenly decided to move a bit higher up, to a place were there were no space.

He basically looks confused on the pitch.

                    That should never happen.

Give them support and they will play better. Boooo them and you show that you want us to lose the game.

The supporters that boooo can go on and support Everton instead.

                    Lucas need our support.

Masch played a **** game, Rafa was right to take him off. Most knowledgeable fans in the world my ass.
I feel sorry for Lucas really. He plays in our strongest position and when one of the others are left out, there is serious pressure on him and every little mistake seems to get a groan from the crowd rather than encouragement. I hope he makes it a proves a few wrong.
Oh the man is a midfield maestro

Disgrace to the club if you ask me and the fans in question need there heads sorted. Seriously what good do they think its going to do? It will just ruin the lads confidence even more and play on the other players minds as well. Needs stamped out now!

                      I would/could NEVER boo a Liverpool player

                        He won't. Get rid.

Maybe he can make it in another league but not this one and certainly not for LFC. We can't afford to give him the game time that only might improve him. Write him off as a bad gamble and recover a small % of the figure we paid.

And start playing the ****ing reservers!!!

                          Lucas

His best performance in a red shirt since coming here. Had three great chances to score today and deserved one. Two assists, the pass to Gerrard was fantastic.

If he continues to perform well, it'll take a lot of pressure off Gerrard. The two were absolutely lethal today going forward.

He was superb again. I picked him out at the start of the season as being 1 we will need to come through for us and he is starting to do that now
