Keane got 7 goals, 2 against relegation fodder West Brom and 2 against the footballing super power that is Bolton.
I thought it was a good signing, I was wrong, he had 65 minutes everytime he started a game to do enough to last the remaining 25 mins, the bottom line is he never played well enough to justify staying on the pitch.
At Tottenham he can play well in patches, the fans will love him regardless, the expectation is much much lower.
He wasn't good enough in the end, I'm glad Rafa has got rid because the press would make an issue of him not playing for the rest of the season and it could become a distraction.
I think it's a brave decision, but in reality as long as we play 4-2-3-1 he was never going to play as long as he had a hole in his assThe King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

The truth is somewhere in between mate. I would not zero in any one party on this debacle.Originally posted by el matador View Posti have to agree with some of the points that kingfunk makes.
Robbie keane wasnt given a chance at liverpool to succeed. I cant believe that some of you genuinely believe that he wasnt good enough to play for us and became a bad player after he joined the club.
The sad thing about this whole affair is that robbie keane is a genuine liverpool player and will always have the quality to be one. He was used by rafa benitez as an example of wanting things his way at anfield and im thoroughly disgusted by his behaviour.
We all have opinions on players (mostly always on their ability rather than them as people as we dont know them) but i have lost respect for rafa after the keane episode. It goes to show that he might be a good manager but he's definitely not a fair one. He bombed keane out plain and simple as a point of principle. It wasnt a footballing matter.
The lad was a liverpool fan LIKE US, and realised that dream of playing for his boyhood club - a dream that we all share. Its like one of us being selected to play for liverpool only for rafa to get the hump and marginalise us because he didnt really want us. How would you feel if this happened to you ?
It was **** all to do with ability and all to do with politics. This club was built on sound morals and unbiased principles - that is the liverpool way. We say that the owners dont understand the liverpool way but neither does benitez.
keane didnt deserve that.
Robbie Keane is a good quality premiership player. But he does not fit within our system. 4-2-3-1 is our best system. It gets the best of all our players and pushes Gerrard closer to goal. It also allows Torres to work on his own. Even the greatest Robbie Keane fan will have to agree that Gerrard-Torres> Keane Torres.
Given that problem, when Parry was bidding for Keane, Rafa should have said no. He should have stood his ground there. Rafa did not do that. If Rafa wanted Barry over Keane, Parry should have gone all out for Barry. If Rafa did not want Keane over Barry, he should have made that clear. All it shows is the staggering lack of communication and trust at the top of the club. If that isnt taken care of, we will continue to have problems. Again I lay the blame on Rafa, Parry and G & H.
Keane was given reasonable amount of chances. Maybe Rafa should have handled him better but he was given a decent amount of playing time. Outside of a couple of matches, he did not prove his worth.
I think Rafa axed Keane from the squad after the internal problems started. Remember Lawro telling that he heard from Stevie that Keane may move. That happened in the beginning of December. I think problems had started before that and thats when Rafa removed him from the squad.
So let us not paint everything in black and white and point fingers at one party. Let us put this behind us and support our team. We have an entire summer to celebrate or bicker.

I really feel for keane and although i admit he missed some sitters and didnt quite make the impact i thought he would, i dont think he was given a chance. You cant judge his performances in the last few games after xmas because he was a dead man walking and he knew it.Originally posted by peekay View PostThe truth is somewhere in between mate. the truth will come out eventually (probably in his autobiography) but if what maddock wrote has even an ounce of truth to it, it would be devastating for keane and liverpool football club - the family club.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

for two reasons.
One is non footballing. I love Liverpool FC and it is a huge part of my life. But i also have mates who are getting fired left, right and center in this climate. I cannot bring myself to apologize to a person who is getting 90000 per week. Let me be clear here. If Rafa was fired now I would be angry only because I believe we are shooting ourselves in the foot. Not because we have been ungrateful or unfair to him. These are highly trained professionals doing jobs where the margin of error is very very less and they are adequately compensated.
Second is footballing. We are not Rafa FC but we are not Keane FC either. Managing LFC is a high pressure job which requires people who think outside the box. People who have the guts to not to follow popular opinion and take unpopular and at times crazy decisions. People who trust their instinct and have the guts to follow them. It is the absolute bare minimum requirement to be a manager of LFC. I have criticized Rafa on a number of occasions but atleast he is an original thinker. Look at people whose decisions are never criticized : 'arry redknapp, curbishley - who always pander to popular opinion.
What have they won?
For the right or wrong reasons, supporting a player over a manager sets a dangerous precedent. We have never been a club who has done that. Someone remarked on this board couple of months ago " Shankly may have talked a lot about socialism, but inside the dressing room he was Caesar".
it is so true. Rafa is like that. Mourinho/Capello are like that.
Capello got into a fight with Totti at Roma and because of that he walked/fired. Details of that was murky. Roma have not been anywhere close to challenging after Capello left.
And it is understandable if rafa got into a fight with Stevie G and we dont support him. But I dont see the rationale in apologizing to Robbie Keane ( who apart from being a LFC fan has not contributed anything to LFC) over a misunderstanding with the man who won us the champions league.

I would imagine Robbie Keane knows exactly what 'Liverpool Football Club' thinks of him, and doesnt need some sentimental tosh to soften the blow.
Bottom line, and I dont know why some people are so spectacularly failing to grasp it, is that HE WASN'T VERY GOOD
He cost £20m, he should have cost half that. He missed more chances than is acceptable for someone in his position and he sulked and moaned when he got subbed BECAUSE HE WAS ****E
Regardless of whether or not his purchase was the right one, if he'd have been scoring goals for fun and genuinely justifying his price tag then we'd have found a way to accommodate him. ALAS, he didn't and so because the initial buy was seemingly an error, he was shipped out whilst we could still get a decent amount of cash for him
Bye Robbie. Lovely bloke by all accounts, proper Liverpool fan and all so sorry it didn't work out but I think there is really only one person to blame.......
A laughable and extremely arrogant missive. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
