OK, forget the stats you keep referring to and look at performance.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostWhy?
Can you honestly say that he is a good player?
Granted he is starting to aid the cause just a little but do you really cartwheel when his name appears on the sheet week after week?

I think he performances are good for the role he plays, do you expect him to start taking on the entire opposition alone or something?Originally posted by Icon View PostOK, forget the stats you keep referring to and look at performance.

What a bizarre criteria to use.Originally posted by Icon View PostOK, forget the stats you keep referring to and look at performance.

I, like Matt, think that he is a good player. I find it very odd that you think questioning that in a scathing tone would change anyone's opinion.
I don't think that Matt thinks he is a good player because of the statistics he is quoting but is using them to validate part of his opinion. It does also seem a bit odd to not think that his success and tackling is not part of his 'performance'."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

He's proven he can be a good squad player with a good attitude, he breaks things up and gives it simple (thats why his stats are so good).
He's not a creative player and doesn't have the midfield presence that Mascherano or Alonso have in same position
He's a decent, uninspiring player who can do a decent job for the team. Never going to be a world beater, but nowhere near as bad as some have made out either and he does age on his side, even if he doesnt have talent

I know I'm in the minority and as Matt has pointed out the number of people adopting any given position does not influence it's veracity.
I know it was tongue in cheek but even so it somewhat misses the point. No one was claiming that Lucas is the new Maradonna and to introduce a straw man of how excited we get at seeing which deep lying midfielder is chosen doesn't really seem to be much of an argument.

It wasn't so much an argument as a question though.Originally posted by dww View PostI know it was tongue in cheek but even so it somewhat misses the point. And my point was more that Matt seems to rate the guy enough to be happy with his selection regularly. I for one want to feel excited and comfortable about the starting 11, and seeing Lucas name does not do that.
Anyway, on a far more important point.
Chocolates it is...

This thread is like a discussion between Richard Dawkins and Danny Dyer..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.
