I am delighted for Roy Hodgson that he achieved this position at this stage in his career - no doubt give it his best shot.

He was not my preference at all but he is here now, and I liked what he had to say at the PC (apart from the Inter comments.. we are bigger Roy). I wish him all the very best.

      ^^^ burn him!!! :crackoff;

I agree mate. Roy is so experienced with dealing with press; very calm an assured. Also, despite the conspiracy theories and general hatred, I have no reason to doubt that Broughton was being anything other truthful.

        Here's my 2p...

I'm not happy that Rafa has gone. I'm not happy with Roy's appointment. That being said I do hope Roy is successful because I want the club to be successful and at the end of the day the club is the most important thing. As such Roy has my backing.

            I'd agree with latter.

You know, Just watched that press conference and to me Hodgson came over as a puppet. The suit, the tie, the constant looking to Broughton for assurance it all just seemed to manufactured and sadly didn't feel or look about Liverpool what so ever.

I thought he handled himself well in the Press Conference - Well by his own standards anyway. However, since those standards ARE clearly to be "Mr Uncontroversial"? I didn't expect much, so he pretty much stuck to type there. However what DID happen was that odd was that for some reason he struck me with thoughts of Joe Fagan for some unknown reason. I doubt his first season will be anything LIKE as successful as Joe's was but he Does seem a similar type of man and manager to a man whose IMO, the Most underrated manager of All our previous ones. Needless to say I hope Roy has HALF the success Joe did without expecting to much; But overall? I Do actually think he'll do well here and he might actually surprise quite a few of us with just HOW well he ends up doing..............

Said that he wouldn't say that we were a bigger club than Inter because he's still friends with Massimo Moratti and that he didn't want to be lead into saying it because Moratti might not like it.

Cracked me up though, when he said Moratti's name he really rolled the R sound. "Morrratti" then 2 sentences later he was going on about his "caweeaw" (career)

I'm actually feeling more settled about having him as our manager mainly due to the fact he's a gentlemen. Although, I must say I'm nervous and I would have preferred some other managers. But I support LFC, not Rafa Benítez

                        EDIT:
Also, does Martin Broughton remind anyone else of Sir Ian Mckellen

The owners have taken us all for a ride, Hodgson is not the calibre we require just look at who he wants to bring in..Gilberto Silva FFS.

Anyhow I will bite my tongue and hope we're not in a relegation battle.

Fair enough, mate. Saw Gilberto Silva play a couple times when I went to see Arsenal and he was utter ****e. Then I watched him this World Cup and he is keeping that team together and I'm baffled by it to be honest.

New Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has defended his record in English football and insisted he has learned from failures earlier in his career.

The 62-year-old's appointment on a three-year contract at Anfield has received a lukewarm response in some quarters.

Despite his relative success with Fulham, making them a solid mid-table Barclays Premier League side and guiding them to the Europa League final, there are those who still remember his unsuccessful spell at Blackburn between 1997 and 1998.

Hodgson led a side which narrowly escaped relegation to a sixth-placed finish in his first season only to be sacked in December 1998 with the club bottom of the table.

But Hodgson still defends his time at Ewood Park.

"Blackburn was the only place I have been sacked and that was somewhat harsh," he said.

"I took a team which had avoided relegation by one point into European football and then lost four of the very best players - three to injury and one to a forced sale to Rangers - the following year.

"Admittedly the start of the following season was not as good and we built up expectations but it is difficult for me to see Blackburn as a complete failure.

"I did make mistakes there; you always make mistakes when you fail somewhere.

"I have analysed those failures but I don't think they were quite as blatant as some people would like to think."

The former Inter Milan boss also hit out at critics who say he has not had enough experience at big clubs.

"Blackburn were a top side when I went there, we finished sixth in the league, Udinese have had success in the past and the four years I had with the Swiss national team going to the World Cup and European championships was successful.

"I regard comments like that as far too insular."

If expectations were high at Blackburn the targets Hodgson will be set at Liverpool will be astronomical in comparison.

First he has to persuade star players Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard to stay, then he has to somehow strengthen a squad lacking in depth on a very tight budget and finally get the club back into the Champions League after finishing seventh last season.

Hodgson wants to bring in some new faces but will fully assess the merits of the squad he has inherited before making any decisions.

"I haven't had time to sit down with the chairman (Martin Broughton), chief executive (Christian Purslow), with Kenny Dalglish, Sammy Lee, with Eduardo (Macia), the chief scout," he said.

"Before we decide what we need I need to canvas the opinions of all these people about what has been going on.

"I need to hear what the backroom staff think and not base my opinions on the Liverpool matches I saw this season.

"We need some players and I would like to come into the club with one or two players which will freshen things up.

"But we have to make very good decisions and use any money we get very wisely - we won't be able to splash out money left, right and centre."

You won't have money to splash out left, never mind right and centre Roy. Welcome to LFC mate.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

I feel we are at a major cross roads at the moment, and we need the right men in the right jobs sadly I don't think we have any men in the correct jobs and Hodgson now falls in that criteria.Support him, I guess so as I'm a Liverpool fan, trust him to get thinks right and fight our corner..... not a chance. I think he has been brought in to try and shut us all up and it has back fired on the dicks running the club.Hodgson is not a man that will move us forward, I feel he has come in to sell certain players and take the flack when everything goes wrong. I hope I'm so so wrong and that by xmas we are all chanting his name, but I doubt it very very much.
It's a prediction thread on a wish list.
