Because Rafa needed to sell before he buy. Weaken the team before strengthen it. If he had the money then he would of course not even thought about selling Xabi. So that is the fault of our lovely owners. No ambition so the manager need to sell a key player if he want to sign a key player.
Xabi and Barry just happen to play in the same position so Xabi out was the most logical thing to do. The only other players that could have paid for Barry is Torres and Gerrard.
Xabi, Torres or Gerrard? I think that Rafa made the right choice.
He could of course kept Xabi and signed Barry if Parry had followed orders. Then we would have ended up with Barry instead of Keane. Excellent midfield but no back up to Torres.
Now Rafa thought that he had to sell Xabi to afford to sign both Barry and Keane when in reality he could only afford one of them. Something he simply didn't know by the look of it.
My point though was why would anybody prefer Barry to Alonso. Just that a previous posster seemed to regard Xabi leaving as something that had kind of happened to Rafa rather than something he seemingly caused.
The fans wont put up with this for much longer before they turn
I watched the match in a pub on Saturday and its the first time in my lifetime I can remember not hearing one single comment from the audience
Normally you get the cries of "get stuck in" or "oohh's" and "ahh's" but it was just a deafening silence
The goals barely caused a ripple or a smatterring of applause
Dalghlish would be the perfect choice to lift the spirits of both players and fans IMO, I think it's horribly dismissive to write off Dalglish because he has been out of the game - I think he has always followed it quite closely and even been involved.
Hodgson looks like he has been out of the game for a century!
The board is guilty of a monumental **** up in not appointing Kenny, he was practically the only candiate who would have got some time from the fans - Hodgson has a hard time and we (I was first) jump on the Kenny bandwagon, it was always going to be like that.
* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.
Boos may become more common after matches, but I expect Roy to view as beig directed to the players, saying he understands the frustration and the players let themselves down etc.

Indeed. The thinking was that kenny was a risky option and Roy was a safe pair of hands. Not looking like that so far.
