What if the right man* is not available til the end of the season, and the owners feel that Kenny D is not the man to take over in the interim period (I actually think that he isn't either).

Do we sack Roy and remain ruderless til summer, or plod along til summer, avoiding relegation at all costs, til the right man is available.

I'd sack Roy and put Kenny in for the interim

My biggest argument against keeping Roy for any length of time is that his ideals and philosophies might become ingrained in the club

the whole rafa debate really sums it up for me:
a lot of our fans have been firmly living in the past for far too long. it's held us back when we refused to embrace the premier league era.
we're so focused on our past and that we've failed to move forward.
rafa's gone. the ones who appointed roy are gone, too.
new owners, new men in power, new vision - there's no point dwelling on the past. if's and but's shouldn't come into it.
what matters is the present and the future. roy's the present but he's clearly not the future.
cut henry some slack and let him do his research. this time we should get the right man in for all the right reasons.

I'm far from convinced about this fans holding us back by their reverence for the past argument.

The only thing where I think the past has really held us back was when we didn't revolutionise the academy earlier as Heighway was in charge. Not sure how much influence the fans had in that. There have been many problems including poor commercial and financial management and limited plans from managers and poor buys that have held us back but cant really see how 'dwelling on the past has had a big impact'.

I do agree that the present/future is where we need to be looking as a club but we have to learn lessons. We need a manager who is less limited than Roy. At the minute sadly Roy is both the present and the immediate future. His actions will also have a bearing on the more medium to long term future. At this stage I just want him out and someone who understands the aims of the club to be in place.

I think we should look at the differences between our former and current managers to inform some of the decisions we have to take. We need a manager who prepares for success and is willing to buy into a long term vision and who has the ability and willingness to adopt tactics that are appropriate for the players, the league and the variations adopted by others.

Fans (even the ones who wanted Rafa out) have realised Hodgson is terrible so it's only natural for them/us to look back at the previous manager.

Sacking Hodgson is essential to stop us from stagnating and losing our best players and best young players.

I actually had a thought. Maybe Roy's intention was to come to the club and bring a few 'solid' players, like Poulsen and Konchesky, to help him settle in and bring some stability, as only experienced war horses can. He was then going to gradually make us a more fluid attacking machine by working with our existing team and investing in January.

But being 63 he had a cup of tea and promptly fell asleep!

arn mate, inter do have a director of football who's in charge of transfer.
that doesn't mean though that he buys a player even though the manager doesn't fancy him. like comolli said, it's a team decision but at the end of the day he's in charge. same goes for real madrid. that's the way it works and all managers have to deal with it. that's why some of the long to work in england where they hope they can do whatever they think is right. whether that's the better model depends soley on the person(s) involved.
