But there are posters that think that everything new or different is crap (well probably everything is crap). Now and again they'll call it right I suppose but most of the time they're just miserable.Originally posted by Mostar View PostYour quote is "Who's to say if Roy did a half decent job, that he still wouldn't be LFC manager now?" and my point was that bunch of posters here projected that he'll be horrible manager for us even before he got the job so it cannot come as suprise that he was a disaster and getting sucked was the likely outcome.
Sure "What If" is irrelevant now but it is also fair to acknowledge that some advocated Roy sacking much earlier than it happened and it is normal to try to envision what would have happened if FSG pulled the plug any earlier.
Most probably didn't want Hodgson but as the appointment was made I think it's a moot point as to when was the right time was to get rid of him. Especially so as the owners lacked experience of football and many respected "experts" (each at least as knowledgeable but probably a lot more knowledgeable than posters on here) we advising caution about getting rid.

****ing hellOriginally posted by Tee View PostI know, I read the first 10 pages again.

...my very own low point is in there. **** me

....I feel it incumbent upon me to clarify it was a one off, very low moment
....and I was dead against him getting the job by the time it became a realistic proposition.
There.

Desperate alright. There were two or three rotten defeats last season that had me thinking he had to go. I hated myself for itOriginally posted by Tee View Post

Lets hope maybe his dream return to the club can happen one day, hopefully after a long and successful spell under Kenny.

Totally unrelated to LFC, but at the same time Liverpool has gone through this stretch, my University's American football team (The Michigan Wolverines) has gone through the worst spell in our 132 year history; they are the winningest club in the history of College football and have struggled mightily. Having both teams struggle at the same time has been absolutely devastating to me; I haven't had much joy at all.
There have been some very strange parallels; Roy was fired at almost the exact same time as the coach of Michigan was fired, Michigan hired a new coach who was a former assistant coach at the University to help "restore the tradition" and suddenly, optimism is running high. Now, out of nowhere, I am excited about both clubs again; Michigan's new man needs to prove himself on the field, but he is performing incredibly well as a recruiter. There were a ton of people who didn't want him hired, but now that he is there, the place is buzzing and everyone is eating crow. It's just WEIRD to have both of things happening in parallel at my two favorite teams... they are like mirrors of one another!
Now, Michigan DID renovate their stadium... only holds 109,901 now. More seats on the way to meet demand...

They are different games... the games are part of a tradition for everyone who went to the University (hundreds of thousands of people), plus fans of the teams, the students (Michigan has almost 40,000 students alone) etc. It is the closest to English football; we have a band that inspires the supporters to sing songs, no alcohol is allowed in, so people spend the AM getting pissed before the game, it is a more "pure" form of the game as it is amateur, the rivalries are far more intense-- people are passionate about College football more so than the NFL.Originally posted by Marsh View Postits amazing how college football gets the crowds it does
why does it get more than the NFL etc? is it cheaper?
NFL I love as well and for TV, it is the most popular game in the USA because college support is regional and there are 100+ teams, which breaks up the TV revenue across multiple networks, etc. Plus, there is fantasy football and gambling on the NFL, which have been massive in consolidating support... The stadiums are smaller, more expensive, serve alcohol and are more "corporate" in the NFL; but the game is faster, more hard hitting, etc. I love watching both, but I am nowhere near as passionate about the pro game as I am about Michigan... it is in my blood!"Our legacy begets an excellence that surpasses the particulars of who produces it." -- David Carr

Well they are one bunch of americans who don't seem to do friendly fire. Unlike our last lot.

Seriously though i'm delighted with how they have handled themselves and done what has needed to be done at LFC with minimum fuss. They are doing all the right things (so far)
By signing Kenny up full time and steve clarke they have made the two most important signings for our club than any of the past 20 years.
Im hoping that they will decide to upgrade Anfield rather than building a new ground
