Bit disappointed at the last minute Meireles move, but we do have a bunch of talented youngsters coming up. They may not be able to be as effective as Meireles in the current season. However in the long term it will pay off.
Overall extremely happy with the transfer window. Out squad is brimming with talented, young players who want to play for the club. Over the summer couple of times I may have criticized the targeting of British based players over reasonably priced foreign ones, Downing over Mata for example, but now it is obvious that the squad was built and purchases was made based on a systematic process. The capture of Coates also showed that our scouts are looking at value all over the globe.
The biggest positive for me is the relationship between the owners and the football management. Kenny has been lavishing praises on the owners this summer. He did not need to do that.
Today morning Commoli pointed out how the owners trusted the decision to sign players first and then try to move the deadwood later. It is a simple thing but it represents a significant huge shift from the way we conducted our transfers from the last 10 years. We did not wait till the last minute hoping that other clubs would increase their bids for our deadwoods and then conduct our purchases. It enabled us to address our weakness in squad much early on and in a calm manner. Kudos to the owners for taking that risk.
