Absolutely. It's been progress, and given the state we were in a year ago we've done incredibly well to do so much work in such a short time.Originally posted by The Erectile Banana View PostYes. We've signed seven quality players and shipped out a big pile of the ****e that was clogging the bowels of the club.
Some of our signings wouldn't have been my personal choice, but Kenny got who he wanted and was fully backed by the owners, which can only be a good thing.
Compared to a year ago we've come a hell of a long way.
Mattshark hasn't strung himself up yet.
Anyone heard from anfieldanfield today?
Well said mate. I'd be gutted if we didn't finish at least 4th this year.Originally posted by Chazza1978 View PostLooking at what we have done compared to the other teams challenging for 4th then its been a very good window
We have significantly strengthened and also shipped out a hell of a lot of players which will have eased the wage bill
Arsenal have replaced Cesc and Nasri with Arteta and Benayoun and pocketed the rest of the cash, they are weaker than last year
Spurs look a weaker squad letting go Crouch, Palacios, Jenas, Hutton, Bentley and only bringing in Parker Adebayor and Friedel. They have pocketed the difference. Modric will probably play like Fabregas last year when his head wasn't in it
Chelsea missed out on the main targets, Mata is a good signing but not convinced that Miereles is what they need in midfield to create chances.
Before the window i hoped for 4th this season , now I think 4th should be the minimum we are aiming for.Last edited by Lee; 01-09-11, 12:03 AM.

We didn't do either and there is a good reason behind it.
We don't have a big stadium so we can't just spend spend spend with the new rules now in force. We had to get some players off the wage bill as been said before we can spend very big. The new rules don't only affect how much we can spend on players. We had a very big squad and a lot of high earners. Wages is included in the new rules.
As also been said. We can now spend more in the coming transfer windows but we had to be sure to get rid of the "deadwood" first. We couldn't gamble on that one.Stop the cyberhate

from now on I will skip talking about our finances. That is a promise and will save myself from looking like a

Our Squad as I see it: I have included only those youngsters that have played substantial 1st team football already. This is taken from the off. We do seem a bit light in central midfield now. Maybe KD will look to play Gerrard in a deeper role this year. It also looked like we had significant surplus in the role behind the striker, but Aquilani, Meireles, and Cole have all left leaving only Suarez, Gerrard, and Hendo. But what was a bloated squad is now looking pretty trim.

We've got enough going down the wings and enough movement up front to enable us to carry an unspectacular player in CM ('the Carrick Effect').Originally posted by Craig_H View PostNot light for numbers.
Gerrard, Adam, Shelvey, Henderson, Lucas, Spearing

Yes. We've moved on a lot of very average players and have bought well, if for the most part unspectacularly.
Enrique and Coates fit the bill perfectly at the back. Enrique is the best l;eft back we've had in a long, long time. Henderson has a lot of potential and a great attitude, while Adam has a touch of class about him. And solves the StevieG corner problem. Bellamy I've always rated and as for Downing, I think he's an excellent player who's very consistent and will win over the fans big time. We've bought very well imo, some fees a bit big, some bargains, but overall very pleasing.
As for outs, for the most part they were all no brainers. As for Meireles, well if he hadn't had that little bout of scoring in Feb/March, very few would be at all bothered at him leaving. Decent technical footballer but really was not going to fit into our midfield with the signings we made and the system Kenny likes to play. Plus, well, if he wanted to go then we did the right thing letting him.I could not dig, I dared not rob:

There is no way that both Arsenal and Spurs have more quality or depth than us this year.
I fully expect us to go big in January and address the issue with selling Raul so late in this window.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

its strange as i was not that happy at the beginning of the window, however I am glad that players who were not going to play have gone.
The start we have made is promising.
It looks like we now have a platform to build from. Any signing from now on will really make a difference to the squad rather than fill a gap.
so future ones may be more spectacular but they can only be so because of this window
